I live in Virginia.. no, it cannot be fixed. It has gone the way of Colorado. Regardless of what becomes of this gerrymandering scheme, Virginia can’t come back, because of the scum that populates the northern counties bordering DC.
I am afraid you are right about that.
The country at large is in the process of self-selection and division. Western Virginia may wind up voting to join West Virginia, just as western Washington and Oregon may become part of Idaho.
Because Progressives are agents of government expansion, they will always work to consolidate their electoral victories by ensuring that Republicans can never again capture power. They do this by using their organizational advantages to change laws, voting rules and the composition of electoral districts, just as they are currently doing in Virginia.
I have visited (beautiful) parts of Virginia that were self-evidently conservative and evocative of a very different time in our nation's history - patriotic, church-going and sensible.
I have also - more recently - been in Arlington, and observed countless yard signs declaring fealty to LGBTQ+, Trump = Hitler, "Join the Resistance", "In this house, we believe..." along with government union decals and bumper stickers that made it clear that NOVA is now effectively a part of 95% Democrat D.C.
Such fissures will only deepen in the coming few years. Until the bend finally breaks.
