Iran’s top negotiator: Accept our proposal or ‘American taxpayers will pay for it’
by Ashleigh Fields - 05/11/26 7:33 PM ET

Iran’s top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Monday said the U.S. must accept its newest 14-point proposal or else American taxpayers “will pay for it.”

“There is no alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal. Any other approach will be completely inconclusive; nothing but one failure after another,” Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X.

“The longer they drag their feet, the more American taxpayers will pay for it,” he added.

The 14 point proposal includes an effort to end the war in 30 days, the withdrawal of American forces from Iran, removal of sanctions on Iranian assets, reparations payments, end to fighting in Lebanon and a new method to govern the Strait of Hormuz, according to NPR.

The proposal has been submitted to the U.S. through Pakistan, which has been mediating talks.

Iran’s latest proposal for peace follows a staunch rebuke to its response to the U.S. agreement submitted over the weekend.

On Sunday, President Trump said, “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” in a post on Truth Social.

The president has repeatedly urged Iran to permanently dismantle its nuclear enrichment program.

Tehran previously offered to dilute some of its highly enriched uranium and give the rest to a third unspecified country.

While Iran has pushed for the U.S. to accept its proposal, Trump has done the same.

On Sunday, Trump said Iran will be “laughing no longer” as he continues to hammer out the framework for a peace proposal with Tehran.

“For 47 years the Iranians have been ‘tapping’ us along, keeping us waiting, killing our people with their roadside bombs, destroying protests, and recently wiping out 42,000 innocent, unarmed protestors, and laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN Country. They will be laughing no longer!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Sunday.

Ghalibaf will likely be among the first to head to Moscow, should 47 resume military action; there, he will discover Ukrainian drones ... or they him ...

No action will occur until Trump returns from China.  Trump will have to pacify Xi about taking out Iranian oil facilities before it's done.

I agree.  Any public official that claims Iran controls the strait of Hormuz or states that they will keep nuclear material needs dusted until the responses improve.

Notice to New Guy Above:

Iran has been the IRGC for 47 years. Who do you imagine turned the entire country into one gigantic hardened military fortress?
He is simply stating the Mullahs are not in control, which is different than what the press and most politicians have said since 1979.

Iran is ‘choosing to hold the world’s economy hostage’ with Strait of Hormuz, Caine says

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. Dan Caine told lawmakers on Tuesday that Iran is “choosing to hold the world's economy hostage” with their actions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Caine made the remark after being asked by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., to “explain to the American people who are facing these gasoline and diesel oil prices, what is going on in the Straits of Hormuz, where Iran, which was attacked by us, seemingly has the Straits of Hormuz at a standstill with 1,500 hundred tankers waiting for either permission or peaceful circumstances to navigate."

"Militarily it's a case where Iran is choosing to hold the world's economy hostage, through their use of military power across their southern flank. And so I would encourage Iran to reconsider that," Caine responded. “And I would encourage those allies and partners who have an opportunity to come assist with that tactical problem to do so."

"Could you explain to the American people why, with the vast investment we've made in national defense and military, how Iran, after they've been attacked by us, is still capable of stopping the traffic in the Straits of Hormuz?" Durbin then asked.

Caine described it as a “complex situation out there with a lot of different small boats that are out there and other capabilities.”

“I would encourage them to think wisely about their next moves and to take the opportunity to open the straits. They have that choice to make,” Caine added.

No shit Sherlock

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., questioned Pakistan’s role Tuesday as a mediator in U.S.-Iran negotiations after a report emerged claiming Pakistan let Tehran park its military aircraft on its airfields.

"Secretary Hegseth, if the mediator is allowing reconnaissance aircraft of Iran to be parked in Pakistani air bases, do you think that's consistent with being a fair mediator?” Graham asked Secretary of War Pete Hegseth during a hearing on the Trump administration’s budget proposal for the Pentagon.

"I wouldn't want to get in the middle of these negotiations,” Hegseth responded.

“Well I do,” Graham shot back. “I want to get in the middle of these negotiations. I don't trust Pakistan as far as I can throw them.

“If they actually do have Iranian aircraft parked in Pakistan bases to protect Iranian military assets, that tells me we should be looking maybe for somebody else to mediate,” graham added. “No wonder this damn thing is going nowhere. So, you know, I appreciate all you've done. I'm very supportive of it. But when it comes to Pakistan and China. Enough already.”

I wouldn't be surprised if Pakistan was selling nuclear technology to Iran under the table.

The best place for the Iranians to enrich uranium is in Pakistan.

Saddam Hussein was developing his nascient atomic weapons program in Syria.

Crossing lines on maps makes things possible.

Plus, I think Pakistan and China are buds - united by their common enemy, India.

It was Pakistani scientists who sold nuclear secrets to North Korea for their nuclear weapons program.

Our Secy of War doesn't want to get in the middle of negotiations?   Whose bright idea was it to negotiate with Iran through Pakistan?  Kushner?  Witcoff?  Lindsey is 100% right, no wonder these negotiations aren't going anywhere!!!

I'm not so sure about Hegseth anymore -- I thought he was involved in the negotiations and told Iran to chose wisely when they were first given options.

Meanwhile:

Hegseth says more US forces arriving in Middle East as Iran war ramps up

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said more United States forces are arriving in the Middle East, as the country’s war against Iran intensifies amid mounting concerns over the civilian toll of US-Israeli strikes.

Hegseth said during a news conference at the Pentagon on Wednesday that the US-Israeli campaign against Iran was “just getting started”.....

Without Congress releasing funds, and if IIRC Hegseth is asking for over a $Trillion -- how is this war going to be funded??

Iran said Tuesday a suspected oil spill near its main export hub at Kharg Island was likely caused by a foreign tanker dumping contaminated ballast water, not a leak from its own facilities.

Satellite images from May 6–8 showed a grey-and-white slick stretching across dozens of square kilometers west of the island, a key oil hub in the Gulf.

Vice President and environmental chief Shina Ansari said monitoring found “no oil leaks… from pipelines or oil facilities,” and blamed a “non-Iranian tanker” for the discharge, according to state media.

Iran’s Oil Terminals Company also said inspections found no signs of leaks from storage tanks, pipelines or nearby tankers.

Analysts reviewing the imagery said the slick appears to be oil and could be one of the largest seen since the start of the U.S.-Israel war with Iran, Reuters reported.

Even if Iran was telling the truth, there is no way I would believe them.  They are not trustworthy,  period.

The fact that Trump continues to give them time is very troubling.  Meanwhile, he's over in China, who is one of their partners, cutting some kind of deal.  :thud:

1. A multinational maritime coalition changes the math
When it’s just the U.S. Navy, Iran can posture, probe, and try to wait things out.
When dozens of nations participate — even symbolically — it signals:

broad international legitimacy

shared economic stakes

reduced political risk for Washington

increased diplomatic isolation for Iran

Historically, Iran has backed down more quickly when confronted by collective pressure rather than bilateral confrontation. (For example, the 1987–88 tanker escort operations.)

2. The economic pressure becomes unbearable

a fully disrupted Hormuz costs Iran hundreds of millions of dollars per day at current rial exchange rates.

If the coalition accelerates the reopening, Iran’s leadership faces:

collapsing oil revenue

rising domestic unrest

elite infighting

pressure from business and clerical factions

Authoritarian regimes can absorb pain, but not infinite pain — especially when the crisis is visibly self‑inflicted.

3. Iran loses the narrative
A 40‑nation coalition reframes the situation from “Iran vs. America” to:

Iran vs. the world economy.

That’s a narrative Tehran cannot sell domestically or internationally.
It undercuts their usual “resistance” framing and makes compromise look like the rational, patriotic choice.

4. Internal fractures accelerate

The regime’s stability depends on:

the IRGC’s confidence

the clerical establishment’s unity

the public’s fear of chaos

A multinational reopening of Hormuz pressures all three simultaneously.

Historically, that’s when cracks appear.

the IRGC’s confidence

the clerical establishment’s unity.

Both rest on their collective & absolute religious belief in allah and the 12th Imam, neither of which are going to be shaken by any human, political, or national problems.

The only way to change their minds/outlook is for every last sonofabitching one to be killed. Nothing short of all of them: IRGC & clerics. Once achieved, Iran become Persia and a free country.

Pentagon considering renaming Iran war ‘Sledgehammer’ if attacks resume: report

INDEPENDENT
Owen Scott
13 May 2026

The Pentagon is considering renaming the U.S.’s war with Iran to “Operation Sledgehammer” if hostilities resume, according to a report.

The war began on February 28 under the name “Operation Epic Fury”, but efforts to bring an end to the conflict with a peace deal have stalled as neither side can agree on terms.

Trump is said to be considering further military action if Iran does not agree to a deal and reopen the key shipping route, the Strait of Hormuz.

A White House official told NBC News any fresh military combat action against Iran would be conducted under a new name and operation. Two U.S. officials told the outlet that “Operation Sledgehammer” was not the only name being considered.

Whatever the name might be, the official said that from the Trump administration’s point of view, it would restart the 60-day clock that requires congressional approval for a war.

I think congress caused this pause and reset.  I guess we can pound them for another 60 days, then pause, then go for another 60 days.

I'd argue that you only need to kill enough of them to position the Persians to kill the rest of them...

Hopefully it won't take 60 days, but the more time we give them the more they can rearm.

Iran unleashes 342 fast-attack boats in Strait of Hormuz, tightening grip on shipping lane

A swarm of more than 300 Iranian fast-attack boats was identified in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday as diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Washington continued.

According to maritime intelligence firm Windward AI, 342 boats were deployed across five monitored zones — a “step down from yesterday’s 454, but still elevated compared with the 27 to 230 range observed between May 4 and May 10,” the firm said in a post shared on X.

On May 11, a swarm of about 200 Iranian fast-attack boats brought the Strait of Hormuz to a virtual standstill, the firm said.

Windward also reported a heavy concentration of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) small craft inside the northern Hormuz Corridor, using “swarm-style formations” and “escort-like behavior” to disrupt commercial traffic.

“The swarm coincides with a total halt in commercial movement, with all large-hull vessels currently observed as stationary,” Windward said.

Iran also expanded its definition of the Strait of Hormuz into a “vast operational area” far wider than before the conflict, according to reports.

Citing Mohammad Akbarzadeh, deputy political director of the IRGC Navy, the state-affiliated Fars News Agency reported May 12 that the strait is no longer viewed as a narrow stretch around a handful of islands.

Instead, it has been expanded in both scope and military significance, Akbarzadeh said, according to Reuters.

Why is this guy still alive

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Wednesday against nations cooperating with Israel against Tehran, saying those who do so will face consequences.

Appearing to be responding to news of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the Emirates, he said:

“Netanyahu has now publicly revealed what Iran's security services long ago conveyed to our leadership,” Araghchi wrote on X.

“Enmity with the Great People of Iran is a foolish gamble. Collusion with Israel in doing so: unforgivable,” he added.

Araghchi also warned that “those colluding with Israel to sow division will be held to account.”

Netanyahu’s office said he met secretly with Al Nahyan during the war.

“This visit has led to a historic breakthrough in relations between Israel and the UAE,” the office said on X.

What in the heck are we waiting for??? All I can think of is that Iran/Pakistan has a significant amount of nukes and they are crazy enough to unleash them and Trump isn't willing to take that chance. It would mean significant destruction, especially to our troops over there ????

Only other option is to capture and secure the nukes that they possess.  Is that an untenable option?

Let me guess, military lawyers are what is preventing these Iranian boat swarms from being taken out. That the red tape of target verification is too late to stop them before they are gone.

Focus is on diplomacy??  At what cost???  Kushner's involved -- no wonder there's no progress!

Washington making progress in 'sensitive' diplomatic efforts over Iran war: Vance

Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday that Washington was making careful progress in diplomatic efforts over the conflict with Iran, emphasizing a coordinated approach with regional allies.

“Obviously, these negotiations are very sensitive,” Vance said at the inaugural meeting of the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud in the Indian Treaty Room of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Explaining that Washington was “trying to have a productive conversation,” Vance said that he had participated in a call with Jared Kushner and Steve Wycoff, as well as “a number of our friends in the Arab world this morning.”

Vance reiterated that the goal was to prevent a “very dangerous regime having access to the most dangerous weapons in the world.”

“That's the goal that we're focused on. Again, there's a lot of ways to accomplish that goal,” Vance said.

“The president has set us off on the diplomatic pathway for now, and that's what I'm focused on,” he added.

A Chinese supertanker carrying two million barrels of Iraqi crude sailed through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday after being stranded in the Gulf for more than two months due to the US-Iran war, according to ship-tracking data cited by Reuters.

The Very Large Crude Carrier Yuan Hua Hu was seen heading toward China’s Zhoushan port on Thursday and is expected to arrive on June 1, according to LSEG and Kpler data.

The vessel had briefly anchored off the Gulf of Oman near the area where the US Navy set up a blockade on Iranian vessels earlier this week, the report said.
