Uncertainty over Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s health and the ambiguity around Iran’s leadership are raising questions about who is in charge, the Jerusalem Post reported Tuesday.

“Whether Mojtaba is well is a question we have been asking since February 28,” Dr. Thamar Eilam Gindin said Tuesday in a radio interview, the outlet reported.

“The answer changes with every leak. Rumors that he is dead are multiplying, which is what many thought from the beginning," Gindin said.

Speculation intensified after a ceremony in a small Iranian city honoring “martyrs of the war,” where Mojtaba's photograph reportedly appeared among the images displayed.

Gindin said Mojtaba roles have also largely been unofficial or unclear.

“There is a group, and it is not clear who they are, that says things in Mojtaba’s name and uses him as legitimacy for the decisions they make,” she said.

She described what has been called the Iranian “deep state,” adding it remains unclear who belongs to the group, how it operates, or how decisions are made.

Time is an issue. There are ships in the strait which have been trapped for months. They are running out of food and water.
They were due to be escorted out. Now Trump has stranded them there even longer for who knows how long while he 'makes a deal'.
My point of view is SCREW A DEAL! What he was doing was working, which is why Iran was desperate to stop/delay/postpone it in anyway possible.
Now they have tricked Trump again like they did with that STUPID 'ceasefire' which Iran never observed.

The United States and Iran are closing in on a one-page memo to end their war, a Pakistani source involved in the peace efforts told Reuters on Wednesday, confirming an Axios report citing two US officials.

"We will close this very soon. We are getting close," the source said, with Pakistan's Foreign Minister adding that the country is working to ensure the agreement would lead to a "permanent end" to the conflict.

According to Axios, the US expects a response from Iran within 48 hours regarding the key points of a one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson told CNBC later on Wednesday that the proposal was being "evaluated."

The one-page document would reportedly require an end to hostilities and the start of a 30-day negotiation period.

Later, The Jerusalem Post learned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held consultations and is in contact with senior Israeli government officials regarding developments in the negotiations. Israeli officials said they that they were unsurprised by the developments.

Donald Trump is on the verge of securing a sweeping peace deal with Iran that would lift US sanctions, free billions in frozen assets and open a path to uranium enrichment, mirroring the Barack Obama pact he spent years trashing.

A one-page, 14-point memorandum of understanding is being negotiated between senior Iranian officials and Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The White House believes the memo could finalize a framework to end the war within 48 hours.

If signed, a 30-day window would open for both countries to negotiate a larger agreement covering the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the lifting of all US sanctions on Iran, and new limits on its nuclear program.

The deal calls for Iran to halt all uranium enrichment for 12 to 15 years with automatic extensions if Tehran violates the terms, according to Axios.

Another key provision would have the regime remove its highly enriched uranium stockpile from the country, though the memo does not specify a destination.

The office of French President Emmanuel Macron announced Wednesday that the country’s only aircraft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, is heading toward the southern Red Sea ahead of a possible mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a report said.

The news agency AFP cited Macron’s office as saying that the move is intended to send “a signal that not only are we ready to secure the Strait of Hormuz but that we are also capable of doing so".

“Since February 28, the French Armed Forces have been acting in a defensive posture. Alongside the British and their partners, they have worked on a multinational initiative — the result of ad hoc planning involving more than forty nations — aimed at contributing to the restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in coordination with coastal states,” France’s defense ministry said Wednesday.

“To reduce the implementation delays of this initiative as soon as circumstances allow, the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its escorts are crossing the Suez Canal on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, en route to the southern Red Sea,” it added.

It also said, “The movement of the carrier strike group is distinct from other military operations initiated in the region and complements the existing security measures.”

U.S. Central Command announced Wednesday that American forces operating in the Gulf of Oman "enforced blockade measures by disabling an Iranian-flagged unladen oil tanker attempting to sail toward an Iranian port."

CENTCOM said the incident involving the M/T Hasna unfolded around 9 a.m. ET "as it transited international waters enroute to an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman."

"American forces issued multiple warnings and informed the Iranian-flagged vessel it was in violation of the U.S. blockade. After Hasna’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, U.S. forces disabled the tanker’s rudder by firing several rounds from the 20mm cannon gun of a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet launched from USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)," CENTCOM said.

"Hasna is no longer transiting to Iran," it added. "The U.S. blockade against ships attempting to enter or depart Iranian ports remains in full effect. CENTCOM forces continue to act deliberately and professionally to ensure compliance."

Apparently Trump didn't get the memo that Iran cannot be trusted.  The world and the U.S. are more secure now how? 

What a stupid deal; freeing billions of dollars in Iranian assets??? Gee, nothing like giving them more money to build up their munitions, nukes, etc.

I'm tired of hearing if Iran doesn't do xyz they'll experience more bombings like never before.  I declare b.s.!!!

Something tells me that the U.S. doesn't have the firepower needed to win this war and is stalling.  We're now stuck creating an ever ending blockade because Iran sure as heck isn't going to give up their control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump takes sharp turn toward ending Iran war

President Trump announced a sudden end to his operation to break Iran’s hold on the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday night, hours before reports emerged that Washington and Tehran are closing in on a framework of a deal to end the war.

The president again threatened to resume bombing if the deal falls through, but Trump’s moves underline his desire for an off-ramp as economic pain and political pressure mount.

According to Axios, the latest version of a one-page memorandum of understanding between the two sides would create a 30-day window to negotiate a more detailed agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, throttle Iran’s nuclear program and lift U.S. sanctions. Both sides would ease their blockades on shipping through the strait during that period.

“Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end, and the highly effective Blockade will allow the Hormuz Strait to be OPEN TO ALL, including Iran,” Trump wrote in a social media post on Wednesday morning.

“If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before.”

Hein Goemans, a political science professor at the University of Rochester who specializes in war termination, was skeptical that either side was willing to make the necessary concessions to reach a long-term peace deal.

And whatever commitments Iran makes to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, all sides now recognize its military can shut it down again, wreaking havoc on global energy markets.

“They can say whatever they want about the Strait of Hormuz, but that ship has sailed. It is, surprisingly, a diplomatic victory for Iran — a military victory for the United States, but a diplomatic victory for Iran,” he said.

Yet Trump has paused Operation Freedom and is willing to make a deal unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets.  Sorry, but with the information that is being reported Trump looks like a chump.  I hate to say it, because I truly like Trump and think that he has done well for this country, but with Iran, he's taking a high stakes gamble and one that hasn't been won in over 40 years by the U.S.

The difference is that Iran is completely unreliable, nothing can be trusted at all.  Even the Soviets weren't this bad!  "Trust but verify" made more sense back then.  Iran is completely whack!
