The Staggering Pace of Virginia Gun Control

Despite all outward appearances these days, Virginia is, at heart, a purple state. Most of the state is fairly libertarian or conservative, while there are a few urban enclaves, especially around the District of Columbia, where they're anything but.

And while the Democrats basically cleaned up in last year's elections, the reality is that people were looking at issues like affordability, which is what Gov. Abigail Spanberger and company ran on.

Instead of addressing that right off the top, they started with gun control. We all know this. I'm not breaking news here.

What really didn't register, at least for me, was the pace of it passing. To say that a headline reading, "Virginia legislature passes 15 anti-gun laws in just 60 days," was like a smack across the face to wake me up is putting it mildly.

Revolutionaries move swiftly to consolidate power and eliminate their potential enemies.

Good luck on getting much (any?) of these new laws repealed.

There are numerous AR-15 bans in a number of states (including mine, CT, where you can't even buy .22LR ammunition without a state-issued ID/permit). Offhand, I can think of New York (the SAFE Act has yet to be seriously challenged), Massachusetts, Connecticut, now Virginia.

There has NEVER been a serious challenge to any of these laws.
When is such a challenge going to happen?

Where's that "well... we're waiting!" guy...?

What will ever vex me is the way that when the Left takes power they wast no time bulldozing rights, but the GOP can't keep up with its own shadow sitting still. Charlottesville, NoVA, and the eastern part of the State down near Norfolk (unions from the shipyards?), and DelMarVa. Most of the State, geographically speaking, is conservative. It is the high population urban enclaves which speak through sheer population density, Democrat government, and maybe even some shenanigans.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
