Iranian official reveals 'non-starter' allegedly stalling next round of face-to-face talks with US

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh insisted that the country would not hand over any enriched uranium to the United States, rebutting an earlier claim from President Donald Trump.

"I can tell you that no enriched material is going to be shipped to United States,” Khatibzadeh told The Associated Press in an interview published Saturday.

“This is non-starter and I can assure you that while we are ready to address any concerns that we do have, we’re not going to accept things that are non-starters," he continued.

The rebuke represented Iran's first public commentary on the matter after Trump said Friday that they had "agreed to everything," including a demand to give up enriched uranium.

"They’ve agreed to give us back the nuclear dust that’s way underground because of the attack we made with the B-2 bombers," Trump told reporters Friday

Iranian cessation of uranium enrichment has long been a hardline for Trump.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, however, called uranium enrichment "as sacred to us as Iranian soil," adding that Iran will not be transferring uranium "under any circumstances," according to CBS News.

Khatibzadeh called the American terms "maximalist" and claimed they prevented a negotiation from moving forward.

“We are still not there yet to move on to an actual meeting because there are issues that the Americans have not yet abandoned their maximalist position,” Khatibzadeh said.

Khatibzadeh also claimed another sticking point was U.S. economic sanctions on Iran, referring to them as "economic terrorism."

"The other sides also should understand and address our main concerns, which are illegal unilateral sanctions that Americans have imposed on Iranians and this economic terrorism which has targeted Iranian people to suffocate them and make them to revolt against the political structure inside Iran," he told the AP.

The issue is, you cannot "negotiate" with Iran.
Iran does not negotiate with anyone about anything.

Walz delivered the criticism after a crowd at the inaugural Global Progressive Mobilization event in Barcelona heard video messages from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani about affordability and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., speaking about the "illegal and dangerous wars being waged by Netanyahu and Trump in Iran and Lebanon."

"We've got a feeble-minded, trigger-happy president who plunged us into a war where no threat was present, with no clear objectives and no exit plan. We need to call that what it is. That's fascism. If there are high-level people in Iran, like the Foreign Minister, saying Trump is FOS and there's "no agreement, I wish Trump would stop saying talks are going great! 

The IRGC is shooting at ships in the Strait of Hormuz!   There is no way the President doesn't know this!

If Mr. Trump is unwilling to abandon his dream/hope of "making a deal" with the iranians, he is going to damage his presidency beyond repair.

As 240b succinctly pointed out above, there are no "deals" to be made with them, in any shape or form. You cannot "negotiate" with those who only return such negotiation in BAD faith, from the get-go.

What next?

The USA must take control of Kharg Island, and any other iranian-controlled islands near the Straits.

The USA must launch an air campaign to lay waste to everything, military and civilian, on either side of the Straits for about 75 miles in each direction, and 50-75 miles inland. Afterwards, this must lead to a ground campaign to gain "boots on the ground" control of the area.

The USA must take decisive action -- including the use of nuclear weapons, if that's what's going to be required to effect total destruction -- against iran's underground missile sites. These are far enough away from civilian areas so that the casualties will be mostly military.

If by this point iran still won't surrender, then a full-scale ground invasion may be required.

That saber-rattling sent shipping firms scrambling — just a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisted the strait was open for business, a claim President Trump had welcomed.

Behind the scenes, US officials say the Pentagon is preparing to intercept and take control of commercial vessels tied to Iran — potentially far beyond the Middle East, the outlet reported.

The strategy is aimed at choking Tehran’s economy — with the hope it forces the Iranian regime to reopen the strait and bend in nuclear talks, according to the report.

They are in control of the Strait, they control the oil, and they control the $$. They remain in power regardless of the significant air strikes that we have inflicted upon them, that they have endured.

I tend to agree; Iran had their chance and now they are actually firing on vessels in the Strait -- this could have and should have been over with awhile ago.  Diplomacy doesn't work with these people.  Enough is enough. 

Iran has had days to regroup and re-strategize and that has not proved to be in our favor.

Donald Trump convened an emergency situation room meeting with his inner circle on Saturday to discuss the precarious Strait of Hormuz situation, according to a report.

The President met with Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among others, Axios reported, citing two US officials.

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratliffe, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine also reportedly attended.

The meeting comes amid reports that US soldiers are preparing to storm Iran-backed ships 'in a matter of days,' US officials told The Wall Street Journal.

The US naval blockade of Iranian ports has already caused 23 ships to turn back ratcheting up economic pressure for Tehran.

US officials believe the blockade will help facilitate a peace deal, a White House spokesperson told WSJ. However, it has enraged Iranian officials who are continuing to blockade the Strait of Hormuz in response, despite the President announcing it was open yesterday.

I went for a short walk today.  I broke my toe, otherwise it would have been longer.  I worked a bit outside and got plenty of sunshine and fresh air and I came back to it being reported by several that Trump is losing control over the Strait of Hormuz. 

Trying to pretend that things aren't critical right now, doesn't make them so.  Just sayin'.
