I turned on my heater for the first time since moving to FL.  Not quite a freeze in this neighborhood, but they are expecting one at the bottom tip of the everglades.

Eastern NC is getting buried now, and there likely will be flooding issues on the Outer Banks as the cyclone bombs out.

I understand it was in the 20s this morning in Orlando, but it should get up to 32 by the time the LPGA tournament resumes at 10 a.m.  :thud:

We live pretty far south in FL and have been here over 30 years -- this is as cold as I've ever seen it -- no snow flurries but the freezing temps are a concern -- strain on the heat pump. Hubby wrapped the outside pipes.

For all you Floridians, the Duke brothers just want to know how the cold is going to affect the orange crop.

Geez...already paying $1.50 each for a decent sized navel orange.  And don't get me started on Honey Crisp apples.   :smokin:

Over in SE Texas I lost all my fruit trees except for one Loquat tree in the 2021 freeze. Now I hope my new 5 Orange trees and one Nectarine tree survive.

That damn rodent in Pennsylvania says we have 6 more weeks of winter in store for us.

I thought he was dead when he got dropped on his head a few years ago.  Typical Rat.  They still vote when they've been deed.

So you're saying they have like, apprentice rodents? Rodents in training?    Well that is just wrong. Everything I ever knew was a lie!!

Neighboring states have their own prognosticating rodents. Ohio's and WV's said spring's on the way, while Punxy Phil said the opposite. Well, okay, they didn't actually say anything, but their handlers did.

Wind does make the temps 'feel' colder, but technically, 8 degrees is still 8 degrees. Just sayin'.  All this polar vortex, wind chill, feels like, etc., etc., has  become ridiculous.

Over the last 50 years or so, I have next to no experience with outside activities when the air temperature drops below 32 degrees and fully intend to sustain that record for as long as possible.

Yep, stripping that protective layer of heat next to the skin is dangerous. Thus why layers of wind break become important, but with enough wind one would have to be marshmellowed in coats to not feel the cold.

No.

An arctic parka is required, AND all them layers you were talking about. AND insulated coveralls... and arctic muks. And arctic mitts.

THAT's 20 below.

Eight degrees above, in any condition, is not 20 below.

Woolies are still best for keeping you warm - especially when working. But one thing most folks don't understand - any kind of wind at all will wick the heat off you, wool or not. It is totally amazing what a gortex windbreaker will do at that point - It's almost magic.

The minute you have that impervious shell, all that wool starts cookin. It's a beautiful thing.
