Oil companies have always had contracts with the government to remove their oil.  The only looting came about when Venezuela decided to unilaterally terminate these contracts and looted their assets on and under the ground.

And if you are so certain of lower oil prices, go ahead and invest in the futures market,  as you will make a killing overnight.

Oil prices are one of the most frustrating commodities to predict price.

And of lot of those people fled the country and had their assets confiscated decades ago by the leaders in power at the time.  A number of these would return to their native country if given opportunity, similar to the many fine Cubans living here who left everything behind when Castro assumed power.

I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City.

Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.

This blatant pursuit of regime change doesn’t just affect those abroad, it directly impacts New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans who call this city home. My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker, and my administration will continue to monitor the situation and issue relevant guidance.

The presumed successor to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is currently in Russia, a report said Saturday.

Four sources familiar with the movements of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed her location to Reuters, although the news agency cited Russia’s foreign ministry as claiming the report was "fake."

Earlier in the day, Rodriguez demanded in audio played on Venezuelan state TV that the U.S. provide "proof of life" for Maduro and his wife after President Donald Trump said the pair were captured in a U.S. military operation.

"We demand that President Donald Trump’s government provide immediate proof of life for President Maduro and the First Lady," Rodriguez said, according to Reuters.

Vice President JD Vance was 'deeply integrated' in the planning and execution of the U.S. operation targeting Venezuela and the arrest of Nicolás Maduro, a spokesperson for the vice president told Fox News.

The spokesperson said Vance participated in multiple late-night meetings with national security principals via secure video conference in the days leading up to the operation. He also briefly met with President Donald Trump at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach on Friday to discuss the strikes.

Vance was not at Mar-a-Lago Friday night, the spokesperson said, citing concerns that a late-night motorcade movement during the operation could have alerted Venezuelan officials ahead of Operation Absolute Resolve.

Instead, the vice president remained engaged remotely, joining secure video conferences throughout the night to monitor developments as the mission unfolded. After the operation concluded, Vance returned to Cincinnati.

The spokesperson added that heightened security considerations have led the administration to limit how often and how long the president and vice president are "co-located" outside the White House.

Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, condemned President Donald Trump over the U.S. military operation in Venezuela.

In a statement, Kennedy said the military action violates U.S. and international law.

Furthermore, it sets a "dangerous precedent for Latin America and beyond."

She also condemned the alleged widespread human rights abuses by Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

"At the same time, any actions taken in response must fully adhere to international and humanitarian law," she wrote. "We urge the U.S. government to clearly articulate how its actions uphold these principles."

Kennedy called for a peaceful democratic transition of power in the South American nation that "must respect the will of the Venezuelan people and be governed by the Venezuelan People."

The presumed successor to deposed Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro is currently in Russia, according to a report from Reuters.

Four sources familiar with the movements of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed her location while speaking with the outlet. Russian state media has denied these claims, however.

Despite reportedly fleeing the country, the Cuba-aligned Rodríguez has remained active in Venezuelan state media and has addressed the nation through multiple audio statements.

Following Maduro’s capture, Rodríguez issued statements demanding confirmation of his well-being. “We demand immediate proof of life of President Nicolas Maduro and the first combatant Cilia Flores,” she said in one audio statement released to Venezuelan state media.

She further emphasized that Maduro remains Venezuela’s “only president,” further describing the U.S. actions as a “kidnapping” and “barbaric.”

Venezuela’s leadership command structure is outlined in its constitution, which stipulates that the vice president assumes executive duties during a president’s temporary absence, without triggering new elections unless the absence is deemed permanent. Rodríguez has been sworn in as interim president in a secret ceremony, but she continues to assert Maduro’s legitimacy, according to a report from the New York Times.

 Senate to vote next week to block Trump’s military action against Venezuela

The Senate will vote next week on a bipartisan war powers resolution to block President Trump from continuing military against Venezuela — a vote that takes on heightened importance after U.S. forces attacked the South American nation and arrested President Nicolás Maduro early Saturday.

The resolution to block the administration from engaging in further hostilities against Venezuela is privileged, which means Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) cannot stop it from coming to the floor.

The measure is sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.), Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

It needs only a simple majority to pass the Senate.

“It is long past time for Congress to reassert its critical constitutional role in matters of war, peace, diplomacy and trade,” Kaine said in a statement. “My bipartisan resolution stipulating that we should not be at war with Venezuela absent a clear congressional authorization will come up for a vote next week.

“We’ve entered the 250th year of American democracy and cannot allow it to devolve into the tyranny that our founders fought to escape,” the senator added.

Schiff warned that Trump’s action against Maduro risks plunging the region into “chaos.”

“Acting without Congressional approval or the buy-in of the public, Trump risks plunging a hemisphere into chaos and has broken his promise to end wars instead of starting them,” the California Democrat said in a statement.

He urged Congress to reassert its power to authorize force or to refuse to do so.”

“We must speak for the American people who profoundly reject being dragged into new wars,” Schiff said.

The Senate war powers resolution has a chance of passing next week as all Democrats and Paul, a libertarian-leaning conservative, are expected to vote for it.

Three more Republicans would need to vote for it to give it the 51 votes needed to pass.

Moderate Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and populist conservative Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who has long expressed misgivings about U.S.-led foreign military engagements, could potentially vote for the measure.

Thune, the Senate GOP leader, praised the arrest of Maduro as “an important first step to bring him to justice for the drug crimes for which he has been indicted in the United States.”

“I am grateful for the brave men and women of our armed forces who carried out this necessary action,” he wrote on social platform X.

A House proposal sponsored by Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) to stop Trump’s use of military force against Venezuela failed in the lower chamber last month.
