Inside Minnesota’s $1B fraud: fake offices, phony firms and a scandal hiding in plain sight
Story by Andrew Mark Miller, Nikolas Lanum • 23h

Former federal prosecutor who worked on Minneapolis fraud sounds off on what went wrong

As a massive fraud scheme costing state and federal taxpayers at least $1 billion dollars continues to unfold in Minnesota, Fox News Digital visited several locations that received funding through programs like Feeding Our Future and found several inconsistencies exposing the depth of the scandal.

The now-infamous Griggs-Midway Building housed an "unusual concentration" of fraudulent entities involved in the HSS scheme, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson.

Twenty-two "businesses" connected to the HSS program were registered to this single location. Thompson described these entities as "purely fictitious companies solely created to defraud the system."

These 22 fraudulent businesses collectively billed Medicaid for a staggering $8 million between January 2024 and May 2025.

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.

More Allegations Surface in Minnesota Fraud Probe

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are investigating alleged fraud in a COVID-era food-aid program under Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The investigation is also looking into the possible diversion of federal funds to extremist groups. The Feeding Our Future case has led to multiple convictions and federal scrutiny of Minnesota’s state-funded nonprofit reimbursements.

Comer said the committee “will conduct a thorough investigation into Governor Walz’s failure to safeguard taxpayer dollars.”

The Minnesota Legislative Auditor found the Department of Education allegedly allowed fraud and lacked oversight in program payments. The FBI raided the nonprofit, which later dissolved. Republican committee members noted Comer may subpoena records and refer potential crimes for prosecution. A whistleblower, claiming to represent Department of Human Services staff, alleged that employees had raised early concerns and faced retaliation.

The whistleblower claimed, “We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response.”
