More Allegations Surface in Minnesota Fraud Probe
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are investigating alleged fraud in a COVID-era food-aid program under Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The investigation is also looking into the possible diversion of federal funds to extremist groups. The Feeding Our Future case has led to multiple convictions and federal scrutiny of Minnesota’s state-funded nonprofit reimbursements.
Comer said the committee “will conduct a thorough investigation into Governor Walz’s failure to safeguard taxpayer dollars.”
The Minnesota Legislative Auditor found the Department of Education allegedly allowed fraud and lacked oversight in program payments. The FBI raided the nonprofit, which later dissolved. Republican committee members noted Comer may subpoena records and refer potential crimes for prosecution. A whistleblower, claiming to represent Department of Human Services staff, alleged that employees had raised early concerns and faced retaliation.
The whistleblower claimed, “We let Tim Walz know of fraud early on, hoping for a partnership in stopping fraud but no, we got the opposite response.”
