Pontiac Tragedy: Two Children Found in Dire Abuse Case

In a heartbreaking revelation from Pontiac, a nine-year-old boy was discovered unresponsive and severely malnourished, weighing just 33 pounds. This shocking find triggered an investigation that unveiled another similarly abused child, propelling their father and stepmother into court on charges of first-degree child abuse and torture. Oakland County has faced a disturbing wave of child neglect cases this year, including children living in squalor and without plumbing. The Bazan family's façade of normalcy masked the cruel conditions two of their children endured—closed off from the world, deprived of food, and with windows screwed shut. This case, described by Prosecutor Karen McDonald as an intentional act of starvation and torture, has raised urgent calls for legislative action. Senate Bill 492, if passed, might have prevented this tragedy, according to Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.

Being a red state might have made the bill unneeded too.

Laws?  Words on paper?  Those don't offer protection.

Aren't there laws already on the books about not starving and not imprisoning children?

Laws don't protect from abuse and neglect.  Law enforcement and community engagement protect against some abuse and neglect.

Words on paper can't do anything to help anyone.  Only someone stepping up to do the next right thing helps.
