Seattle Just Elected a Socialist Barista As Mayor
Amy Curtis

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have been making moves to install their preferred candidates across the country. Zohran Mamdani won in New York, and while Omar Fateh lost in Minneapolis, the socialists captured the city council.

In Oregon, a socialist who wants a 90 percent tax rate is on the school board and running for the state legislature. And Seattle just elected a socialist as their mayor.

Meet Katie Wilson, who unseated incumbent Democrat Bruce Harrell.

https://twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1988803495479447778

Here's more:

Socialist Katie Wilson has defeated Democratic incumbent Bruce Harrell to become Seattle's next mayor. The election, which occurred on November 4, saw Harrell in the lead by 7 points, but Wilson gained ground over a week later as mail-in ballots continued to be counted.

The latest ballot count on November 12 showed Wilson leading by nearly 2,000 votes, enough for the race to be called for the Socialist barista, with 50.08 percent to Harrell's 49.59 percent.

Wilson, 43, a progressive community organizer and co-founder of the Transit Riders Union, has never held elected office. Her campaign, similar to that of newly elected NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, focused on "Trump-proofing Seattle," increasing taxes on big businesses and the wealthy, rent control, and doubling down on the homeless industrial complex. Additionally, she vowed to ensure Seattle remains a sanctuary city for illegal migrants, according to her campaign website.

The election of socialists and democratic-socialists is emblematic of the decline of the Dem party among younger and minority voters - significant Dem voter blocs that are walking away from Dem Party.

Seattle elects its own 'White female Mamdani' as mayor…who still lives on her parents' dime
Story by Eliot Force • 20h

Seattle has elected its first democratic socialist mayor, echoing the recent victory of Zohran Mamdani in New York City's mayoral contest.

Katie Wilson, 43, had a nearly 2,000-vote lead over incumbent Bruce Harrell as of Wednesday, making it impossible for him to close the gap with just over 1,300 remaining votes to be counted.

Like Mamdani, Wilson ran on a campaign characterized by promises to increase affordability in the city. Another core part of her platform is addressing Seattle's homelessness crisis, which is one of the worst in the country.

Critics have called Wilson privileged and out of touch, as she regularly receives checks from her professor parents to pay for childcare.

Just look at the Congress. How many of them ever had a job requiring  serious manual labor that raised a serious sweat, where you went home bone tired, knowing you had to get up tomorrow and do the same thing?

‘Utopia!’ Seattle mayor-elect Katie Wilson broadcasts socialist wish list
November 15, 2025 | Sierra Marlee

Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson shared her wishlist for the city that sounds like a socialist’s letter to Santa Claus.

Conservatives are mocking Wilson’s list for being a virtue-signaling to-do list funded by taxpayer dollars, with no real roadmap for achieving her goals. It comes off as childish and unrealistic, creating high expectations that she may not be able to meet.

Watch:

https://twitter.com/amuse/status/1989292673560396273

“I want everyone in this great city of ours to have a roof over their head. I want universal childcare, and free K-8 summer care. I want world-class mass transit. I want great, safe public spaces where kids can run around with abandon. I want stable, affordable housing for renters. I want social housing. I want much more land and wealth to be owned and stewarded by communities, instead of corporations. I want a robust economy with thriving small business, great living wage jobs and strong rights for workers. I want a city where everyone has the basics of a dignified life, including healthy food, access to healthcare and supportive communities,” she says.

But she didn’t stop there.

Pray tell... what in heck is "social" housing?

"I want much more land and wealth to be owned and stewarded by communities, instead of corporations..."

Does that mean you want to seize it from its rightful owners?

There's really not much hope for Seattle.
The former mayor she stole the election from wasn't much better.

Seattle was a odd place back in the 70s and 80s but mostly harmless, charming as well. Then the cumulative effect of all of the wealthy Califonicans, Texans showed up and began buying homes most people could barely afford with cash - literally. These people thought it would be great to shut the town lights off at 10Pm so they could see the stars from their $500,000 homes which were just a few years earlier $20,000. Ironically, they just had to drive a mile or two outside the town limits to be in total dark with almost no light pollution.

By the time I left in 2004, it was unbearable, and Seattle was beginning to have a crime problem. But nothing like today, nor were the crazies as nuts as they are now. But those crazies had kids and bequeathed them trust funds or even two funds, making it hard for them to decide which one to use to pay their bills. The parents craziness metastasized in their kids, I guess.

Beautiful place to live, wonderful climate - you can grow anything there. But is a great place to have been from now ...  twilight zonexxxx

Even if fair compensation is paid to the current owners (as it must be in view of the Takings Clause of the US Constitution), these folks never seem to have understood that the tragedy of the commons is not a one-time thing when common grazing land was overgrazed because there was no authority to apportion grazing time, but something that inevitably happens with community ownership of property.  They'll start with owned and stewarded by communities and end up with controlled by commissars.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I’ve always said that left wing politics requires a childlike view of the world

It would be great if everything she listed was reality. But it isn’t. And progressive think they can mold reality to their ideology.

If anyone  has access to an elementary school age child, bring up issues facing the country and ask them what they would do about it if they were the king of the world

Their solutions are similar to the things that come out of the mouths of progressive adults. It’s cute and idealistic when a child says them.

Is dangerous when adults sound the same way and wield power

I recently had a discussion with a left-wing relative about the new mayor of New York City, and this individual said how great things are going to be with this guy. I told her that New York City is headed for a disaster

When asked how do I know that that’s the case, I simply said, history.

Only left wingers really believe that defunding police departments will lower crime in high crime areas. Outside of the left-wing bubble, no one  believes that.

They will lower the high crime rate by simply not reporting the crimes - goes hand in glove with no bail. And the leftists will continue to believe, right up until they are mugged, robbed, raped, tortured, murdered. Then, of course, its all Trump's fault, and they will demand their glorious and wise leaders double down on their efforts to resist MAGA and the evil Trump.

 Katie Wilson is a Communist.
When the symbol of anti-government resistance is your national flag then your government is the enemy of your nation.

Social housing:

That's exactly what it is.

Or if you prefer, straight from the People's Paradise of Pyongyang:

"If all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final. No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward the time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people."    -Calvin Coolidge

Oh look they want to bring back the Cabrini Green/Robert Taylor Housing model for utopia.

Socialist mayor-elect reveals why she embraced her parents giving her money as a 43-year-old

Katie Wilson, 43, said openness about taking her parents' money during campaign made her 'relatable' to voters

Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson, 43, said now that she has been elected mayor and is earning more money as a result, she no longer needs to ask her parents for help to pay the bills.

Wilson, who recently told CNN she thought embracing the help she got from her parents made her more "relatable" to Seattle voters, quipped on social media that, "after much deliberation and a grueling interview process," she was "pleased" to announce that her higher salary as mayor will mean she no longer needs financial support from her parents.

During Wilson's campaign, she credited her parents' financial support for allowing her to run.

"My opponent's campaign and the corporate PAC that tried to stop my election certainly cast it as a negative thing," Wilson responded when asked whether she thought people in Seattle saw her parents' financial support as a negative or a positive.
