Seattle was a odd place back in the 70s and 80s but mostly harmless, charming as well. Then the cumulative effect of all of the wealthy Califonicans, Texans showed up and began buying homes most people could barely afford with cash - literally. These people thought it would be great to shut the town lights off at 10Pm so they could see the stars from their $500,000 homes which were just a few years earlier $20,000. Ironically, they just had to drive a mile or two outside the town limits to be in total dark with almost no light pollution.
By the time I left in 2004, it was unbearable, and Seattle was beginning to have a crime problem. But nothing like today, nor were the crazies as nuts as they are now. But those crazies had kids and bequeathed them trust funds or even two funds, making it hard for them to decide which one to use to pay their bills. The parents craziness metastasized in their kids, I guess.
Beautiful place to live, wonderful climate - you can grow anything there. But is a great place to have been from now ...
