If true, then why are Witkoff and Kushner even over there talking to them after Trump's hard deadline?  My read on this is that Trump is so obsessed with making peace in the Middle East and win the Nobel Price for it, he's telegraphing his bluffs, which the Arabs are now calling.  It's the Qataris (and probably the Saudis) who are calling the tune now because they sense Trump's personal weakness here.

Both sides are negotiating

To be precise, one side is negotiating in good faith because it actually wants to see the situation ended

The other side keeps playing stalling games, because it has no interest in ever seeing it ended, since it suffers no consequences for keeping it going ... so they keep up the con of pretending to "want peace"

Can't get a Peace deal when one side keeps playing games

You haven't noticed that yet?

Any agreement needs Israel AND Hamas to be implemented.

Trump had to get Hamas back to the negotiating table using only a verbal carrot and stick ---  quite a challenge after Israel bombing Doha in search of Hamas negotiators had essentially ended all hope of a negotiated and sustainable peace. Trump and the Arab coalition pulled off a mini-miracle just getting Hamas back to the table.

Fingers should be crossed the efforts bear fruit.  :crossed:

My bet is that discussions without any serious capitulation on Hamas' part are simply pro forma; getting the boxes checked on the way to a failure of negotiations so it can be said that all efforts were made prior to finishing the job.

It helps that Hamas hasn't budged one inch in their demands....

Ok, so if Hamas can't negotiate then what is going on is nothing but a charade.  So what's the point?

Israel is going to have to go medieval on Hamas eventually, while the appeasers of the world wring their hands and Hamas fans in the US clutch their pearls.  Our task will be to keep out of Israel's way, which is hard to do with so many Jew haters around, many who call themselves "conservatives."

Trump may visit the Middle East over the weekend, saying an Israel-Hamas peace deal is 'very close'
NBC News, Oct 8, 2025

President Donald Trump and Hamas voiced new optimism Wednesday as Trump's envoy and key mediators joined talks in Egypt to end Israel's war in Gaza.

Trump said he may travel to the Middle East at the end of the week but did not specifically say that he would be going to Egypt.

"I was just dealing with people from the Middle East, our people and other people on the potential peace deal for the Middle East — peace for the Middle East, that’s a beautiful phrase, and we hope it’s going to come true, but it’s very close, and they’re doing very well," Trump told reporters at the White House. "We have a great team over there, great negotiators, and they’re, unfortunately, great negotiators on the other side also, but it’s something I think that will happen, got a good chance of happening. I may go there sometime toward the end of the week, maybe on Sunday, actually."

At the same White House gathering with reporters, Secretary of State Marco Rubio passed a note to Trump and walked over to speak to him.

“I was just given a note by the secretary of state saying that we’re very close to a deal in the Middle East, and they’re going to need me pretty quickly," Trump said.

Asked where he might be traveling, Trump said, "I’ll be going to Egypt, most likely, that’s where everybody is gathered right now, and we appreciate that very much. But I’ll be making the rounds."

Hamas also expressed optimism about the talks.

“A spirit of optimism prevails among all,” the militant group said after it submitted a list of Palestinian prisoners to be released in exchange for Israeli hostages under the U.S. plan.

The release of those still held in Gaza and 1,950 Palestinian prisoners are crucial parts of Trump’s 20-point proposal.

Israel has not yet commented on the Hamas statement.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi, who is hosting the talks in the Sharm el-Sheikh resort, said the messages he had received were also “very encouraging.”

Key Hamas negotiators and leaders

Khalil al-Hayya: As chief negotiator, al-Hayya heads the Hamas delegation involved in ongoing ceasefire discussions. He is also a member of the temporary council that has been ruling Hamas since October 2024. An Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, in September 2025 targeted Hamas leadership but al-Hayya survived.

Zaher Jabarin: Jabarin is a representative for Hamas in the West Bank and is also on the temporary ruling council. Based in Turkey, he was also reportedly a target of the September 2025 Israeli strike in Qatar.

Khaled Mashal: A former head of the Hamas political bureau and a founder of the organization, Mashal represents the Palestinian diaspora and serves on the temporary leadership council. He resides in Qatar.

Taher al-Nunu: A media adviser to the Hamas political bureau, Nunu has provided statements to the press on the progress of negotiations.

The negotiating team is part of a larger leadership structure that was reorganized after a number of key leaders were killed by Israeli forces in 2024 and 2025. Following the deaths of Ismail Haniyeh in July 2024 and Yahya Sinwar in October 2024, Hamas is now governed by a temporary five-person committee, which includes al-Hayya, Jabarin, and Mashal.

Israeli officials: Gaza deal expected in hours, IDF to completely withdraw from Gaza City

The Gaza cease-fire and hostage deal agreement is expected to be signed in the coming hours, Israeli officials told Haaretz.

"I hear it is very close. The withdrawal maps have been updated, and Israel will withdraw from most cities other than Rafah," an official said. "The red line is those [prisoners] who participated in or planned the October 7 attack."

According to the official, Israeli forces will completely withdraw from Gaza City. The source has not responded to Haaretz inquiries on whether Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti will be among those released.

Hamas is rolling out crying children on CBS News tonight.  Too bad the reporters with foreign accents fail to mention that this is all Hamas' doing.

Hamas chose to start it.
Hamas choses to continue it.

So, as Hamas moves its negotiation goal posts, we'll see a parade of sympathetic stories on the national news networks, featuring the children Hamas uses as human shields.

I still say Israel should have written off the hostages as already dead; Dresden'ed the Gaza strip, so there would be no crying children for Hamas to roll before TV cameras; and left nothing but smoldering ash for TV cameras to film.

I'll believe it when all the hostages are back in Israel.

Until then, Hamas is just teasing us to buy more time to re-arm and recruit.

I'd love to be wrong.  Me being right is usually not a good thing.  I'm a ray of darkness on a sunny day.

Auto-translated from Hebrew by Grok
A great day for Israel. Tomorrow I will convene the government to approve the agreement and bring all our dear hostages home.

I thank the heroic soldiers of the IDF and all the security forces, thanks to whose courage and sacrifice we have reached this day.

I thank from the depths of my heart President Trump and his team for their mobilization for this sacred mission of releasing our hostages.

With the help of the Almighty, together we will continue to achieve all our goals and expand peace with our neighbors.

I don't know about this ⬆️. Thanks to Trump's leadership, we're seeing a peace plan unfolding that the neighborhood's put together.  We might actually see peace, security and prosperity come from this.

Key Hamas negotiators and leaders

Khalil al-Hayya: As chief negotiator, al-Hayya heads the Hamas delegation involved in ongoing ceasefire discussions.

'Ceasefire discussions' is another way of saying 'The war we started is going badly for us, so we need to figure out a way to convince them to stop.  That way, we can regroup and prepare for the next attack - praise be to allah.'  Al-Hayya was born under occupation (Egyptian).  He is unbending in his opposition to the PA which effectively eliminates him as a negotiator based on points 9 and 19.  Al-Hayya will not accept a Jewish state.  He stands by the Hamas Charter.

Zaher Jabarin: Jabarin is a representative for Hamas in the West Bank and is also on the temporary ruling council.  .  .

@Right_in_Virginia , remember that time when you said that there were no Hamas members in the West Bank?  And I called you out on it?  Per the statement above, you lied.  Once again, the pitfalls of making it up as you go.

Jabarin was born in Samaria shortly after the West Bank had been liberated from Jordanian annexation.  He was serving a lengthy prison sentence for kidnapping and murder of Israel civilians, but was released as part of a prisoner exchange.  He has played a key role in usurping food and housing aid earmarked for the Palestinian people and diverting it to arming Hamas's militants while rank-and-file Palestinians live in squalor as permanent human shields for Hamas.  Jabarin will not accept a Jewish state.  He stands by the Hamas Charter.

Khaled Mashal: A former head of the Hamas political bureau and a founder of the organization, Mashal represents the Palestinian diaspora and serves on the temporary leadership council. He resides in Qatar.

Mashal was born in the West Bank under Jordanian annexation.  He lived only a few days under Israeli occupation as a result of the '67 war before fleeing permanently.  He has spent the remainder of his life outside Palestine except for one brief stint to celebrate 25 years of Hamas terror in Gaza City.  He has caused trouble everywhere he has gone, being deported from Jordan (his birthplace) and Syria.  He is currently under indictment in the US for his role in orchestrating the Oct 7 attack.  He acknowledges that the goal of Hamas is to rid the territory of Jews.  Someone after your own heart.

Mashal will not accept a Jewish state.  He stands by the Hamas Charter.

Taher al-Nunu: A media adviser to the Hamas political bureau, Nunu has provided statements to the press on the progress of negotiations.

Al-Nunu fills the role of Josef Goebbels for the Hamas organization.  He is there to write the propaganda that you end up posting here on a daily basis.  He lies just as effortlessly as you.

Can you name a single person anywhere within the entire Hamas organization that will accept a Jewish State in the former British territory?  I didn't think you could.  So let's stop all this bullshit about 'negotiations' when the 'negotiators' [sic] refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist.

Thanks to Bibi's resolve.  The ONLY thing driving Hamas right now is the Israeli army parked on their doorstep, and a wakeup call in Doha.

Hamas will come up with yet another excuse for NOT releasing the hostages in 5, 4, 3 ...

I have no doubts.  To trust Hamas is absolutely foolish and dangerous.

I appreciate your optimism and withhold comment. I'll see what actually happens. I, unfortunately am a cynic.

Israel and Trump are making a huge mistake in trusting anything that Hamas says.

Is there anyone in here that thinks otherwise?

Trump's a fool if he thinks that Hamas will honor any agreement.  Just more Hokey Pokey.
