In northeast Houston, a homeowner turned the tables on two car burglars just after midnight. According to investigators, he stepped outside his home on Woodlyn Road and opened fire when he caught the suspects breaking into his vehicle.

One suspect was hit and taken to the hospital, and both now face charges. The Harris County District Attorney declined to charge the homeowner, citing state law.

You may find 'nobility' in a savage. But never forget that his first instinct is to kill you.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Depends on what state, county, and municipality you’re in, who the politicians are, and who the police chief or sheriff is (and, more importantly, their political ideology).

Depends on the shot angle, and what I had in my hand.
I know there are some folks downrange from the perp, so the angle has to be right.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

If they are not threatening my person...probably not. They are outside of my house.

Besides, I'd probably miss/wound the would be thief and he would sue me and blow a hole in the side of my vehicle.

I see a long involved fight with the insurance company, lol.

"Would YOU Shoot at Car Thieves Outside Your Home?"

I wouldn't (don't own a weapon).

But... if on a jury... I would not vote to convict anyone who did so. At least so long as they were good shots (not wild shooting hitting others, etc.)

Sorry if you don't like this post.

One other thing... in Texas, isn't it legal to use deadly force to protect your property at night?
(or at least something close to that...?)

Yeah. But the sheriff here says when you're done, to drag em inside before you call him. Just saves everybody a whole lot of work. Efficiency. I am all for that.

They are outside and not a threat to me and likely lethal force would not be warranted.  Secondly, too many neighbors may be at risk.

Pretty much all the rural west.
But you can't shoot em in the back - Because that means they're running away. But you can shoot em in the ass till they turn around.

I hide an Apple Tag in every vehicle for this reason.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

Some take into consideration "if they can easily replace it".... in my case ... NO... the argument of "it's just stuff" does not take into consideration to some folks, stuff is not easily replaced. I don't have full coverage, it will not cover someone stealing... and in my case... having it stolen would hurt deeply. It would affect my family significantly, and "It is just stuff" is not in the conversation.

Nothing wrong if you are in a position to where "it is just replaceable stuff" applies... but to make that call for everyone else is shortsighted. I cringe every time I hear it.

I agree. In country where temperatures hit the lethal level for much of the winter, stealing my means of getting to work, feeding my family, getting to a doctor, or simply getting someplace warm (survival) is a threat to my life, not 'just taking stuff'.

There was a time here when you could leave your vehicle idling outside a cafe with the keys in it, unlocked, and go in for dinner and not worry about it because someone stealing it was unthinkable.

After years of 'Grand Theft Auto' glorifying stealing cars, the moral slide that is ubiquitous, and a change in the demographics with the last oil boom, You'd be foolish to leave keys in a vehicle.
