"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

Real history instead of the BS you've been taught in public schools.

Compared to Lincoln, he was indeed.

I think Lincoln would have acted the same as Marshall if he were head of SC, and results would be the same, to our country's detriment

Because Jeff Davis was such a man of unimpeachable character.

Well, actually, Davis was well respected by most of his peers, North and South, during his lifetime.  He was a soldier, lawyer, Secretary of War, U.S. Senator, and a southern gentleman, and he was probably the best the Confederacy had to serve as President.  He was most certainly honest and generous to a fault.  So while he had his flaws, his personal integrity was never questioned, even after the war.

That’s nice.  Doesn’t save his character.

That’s nice.  Doesn’t save his character.

People who actually knew the man have a very different opinion.

Yeah.  No.  Believing you have a God-given right to own other human beings doesn't really burnish one's resume.

And what was his character again?

Yeah.  No.  Believing you have a God-given right to own other human beings doesn't really burnish one's resume.

Does that include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Marshall himself, and 41 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence?

No, I haven't.  Or are you seriously claiming that Jefferson Davis never owned slaves?

NEVER said that and you know it. Jefferson Davis lived in his era just like Anthony Johnson who just happened to be a black man and the very first slave owner in Virginnia.
