"As you listen to an unhinged Trump try to justify deploying the National Guard in DC, here's reality," Clinton posted on X on Monday, along with a DOJ press release from early January of this year, in conjunction with Trump’s press conference announcing the federalization of the nation’s capital to combat crime. "Violent crime in DC is at a 30-year low."

Clinton’s post immediately drew pushback from conservatives on social media, including from inside the White House, with many making the case that crime in Washington, D.C. has gotten out of control.

"On top of being a big-time loser, you're also a massive liar," White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson posted on X along with an article headline about a D.C. police commander being suspended for allegedly altering crime data.

"If Hillary Clinton thinks DC is safe, she should go move to Anacostia or Navy Yard," conservative communicator Steve Guest posted on X.

Jeffries posted a similar reaction to Clinton on social media saying, "Violent crime in Washington, D.C. is at a thirty-year low. Donald Trump has no basis to take over the local police department. And zero credibility on the issue of law and order. Get lost."

Conservatives on social media ripped Jeffries as well.

"A selection of headlines in our nation’s capital this month," NRCC deputy executive director Jack Pandol posted on X along with several news headlines of recent violent crime in DC.

"Why do Democrats always take up for thugs, violent criminals, and illegals over law abiding citizens?"

"Democrats are lining up to oppose crime being lower in DC," Outkick founder Clay Travis posted on X. "It’s bonkers."

We're supposed to be so excited, because "the MURDER rate" (note:  not much else) is "the lowest in 30 years" - just like DC!

Its been a problem for over a decade and its just getting worse.  When I got stationed in DC they had a Congressman robbed in broad daylight on the National Mall...there was a Texas congress critter that was robbed a couple years ago too IIRC.


It was so bad at one point when I was in DC the metro cops were working one homicide...two blocks away another homicide happened and while cops were working both of those...gunshots rang out for a third murder...I used to hear gunshots all the time if I was at Ft. McNair at night.

The whole place is a war zone.

Media outlets are fact-checking President Donald Trump’s concerns about violence in Washington, D.C., by pointing to misleading crime statistics.

Trump has moved to increase federal law enforcement’s footprint in D.C.’s streets and take over the local police department after a former Trump administration staffer was assaulted by a mob during a carjacking on August 3. Legacy media outlets and Democratic lawmakers responded to Trump’s complaints about violent crime in D.C. by reporting that it decreased by 35% in 2024, citing local police data that leave out crimes such as felony and aggravated assault, thereby making D.C.’s crime problem appear better than it is since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020.

D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) only includes homicide, sex abuse crimes, assault with a dangerous weapon and robbery in its overall “violent crime” numbers that show a decline in 2024. Aggravated assault and felony assault without the use of weapons are left out, despite D.C. law describing them as violent offenses causing bodily injury and despite the fact that aggravated assaults are increasing, according to the FBI.

“Felony Assault does not fall under the D.C. Index violent offense categories,” the MPD told the Daily Caller News Foundation without answering specific questions.

Associated Press publishes anti-Trump 'fact check' that admits president's most damaging DC claim is CORRECT

The Associated Press has published a fact-check appearing to substantiate Donald Trump's claim that the murder rate in Washington, DC, is higher than that of both Bogota, Colombia, and Mexico City.

The piece - titled 'FACT FOCUS: Trump exaggerates, misstates facts on Washington crime' - comes after an impassioned press conference from the president that included the remark in question.

'The murder rate in Washington today is higher than that of Bogota, Colombia, Mexico City, some of the places that you hear about as being the worst places on earth,' he told onlookers.

The administration, in turn, posted a chart to X comparing DC’s murder rate to other cities around the world.

The graphic showed DC's murder rate at roughly 27 percent, Bogota at 15 percent, and Mexico City at 10 percent.

The AP piece conceded Washington is 'one of America’s most-dangerous big cities,' but pointed to how 'the US in general' sees higher rates of than many other countries.

'Washington does have a higher homicide rate than many other global cities, including some that have historically been considered unsafe by many Americans,' a portion reads. 'But Trump is leaving out important context.'

The rest of the fact-check carried a similar tone, after Trump announced a federal takeover of the municipality's police just hours earlier.

Justice Department official Harmeet Dhillon revealed that a homeless man in DC almost robbed her as she was walking to the DOJ on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gateway Pundit’s White House Correspondent Jordan Conradson chatted with Harmeet Dhillon near the White House shortly before the attempted robbery on Tuesday afternoon. A homeless man harassed Harmeet Dhillon and Jordan Conradson. The vagrant verbally accosted Harmeet Dhillon and demanded that she hand over her water bottle.

Shortly thereafter, Harmeet Dhillon was almost robbed as she walked from an appointment to the DOJ.

Probably not.  DC still has a Mayor and City Council.  There is an Acting Police Chief, albeit a totally incompetent DEI hire who was just the Chief Equity Officer (no, really!).  She has no real power because that is the point of control Trump just took over Monday.  Even Mayor Bowser admits that is legal under the legislation that enacted DC Home Rule.  That should be eliminated entirely, but that would require an Act of Congress to return to the 1972 governance.

It was the police "commander" who was placed on leave for cooking the crime numbers and not the clueless DEI police chief (who doesn't know what a "chain of command" is and who needs to go too!).
