Trump Announces Monday Press Conference To Discuss DC Crime Problem

President Donald Trump announced via a Truth Social post that the White House will hold a press conference to discuss violent crime in Washington, D.C.

The Truth Social post touts that the press conference will “stop violent crime in Washington, D.C.” Trump continues to say that D.C. has become “one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World. It will soon be one of the safest!!!”

This comes on the heels of a wave of violent crime in the city, including an attack on a 19-year-old former Department of Government Efficiency employee during an attempted carjacking, which left the employee bloodied and resulted in the arrests of two 15-year-old suspects.

In response to the attack, Trump increased the presence of federal law enforcement in D.C. by having the FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security coordinate with the DC Metropolitan Police in an attempt to curb crime.

The violent crime prompted Trump to announce that he was looking into having the federal government “run D.C.”

“We could run D.C. I mean, we’re looking at D.C. We’re thinking about doing it, to be honest with you. We want a capital that’s run flawlessly.” President Trump said during a cabinet meeting.

The press conference will be held Monday at the White House.

Last night in D.C.: SH0TS are ringing out in Washington, DC’s Navy Yard, less than ONE MILE from the Capitol Building. Over 100 black teens have taken over the park, terrorizing the neighborhood.
Looks to me like the criminals are just playing into Trump's hands.

President Trump is following through on his pledge to crack down on street crime in Washington, D.C.

The Trump administration will “temporarily reassign 120 F.B.I. agents in Washington to nighttime patrol duties,” according to the New York Times, citing “people familiar with the matter.”

“Most of the agents will be pulled from their regular duties at the F.B.I.’s Washington field office, but it was not immediately clear if agency leaders would need to pull additional personnel from nearby cities, the people said, speaking on condition of anonymity to describe details of an effort that were not meant to be public,” the newspaper reported.

FBI agents were “participating in the increased federal law enforcement presence in Washington,” a spokeswoman for the agency told the Times in a statement.

Why this is deeply troubling:

•Unprecedented power grab: No president has ever used Section 740 before.

•Attack on local self-governance: This overrides D.C.’s limited Home Rule, stripping power from elected local leaders.

•Flimsy justification: Trump cites an “emergency” despite D.C. data showing violent crime down 26% and overall crime down 7% year-to-date.

•Militarization of a city: Deploying troops and federal agents without local coordination risks escalating tensions and eroding civil liberties.

•Authoritarian optics: This looks less like public safety, and more like political theater designed to project power and control.

D.C. isn’t being “liberated.” It’s being occupied.

White House sends out these stats/examples on DC crime:

-In 2024, Washington, DC had the fourth-highest homicide rate in the US, with a homicide rate nearly SIX TIMES HIGHER than New York City.
-Just last month, a D.C. police commander was suspended for manipulating crime data to make it seem lower than it actually is. The D.C. police union says this practice is widespread.
-Washington D.C.’s homicide rate also topped Atlanta, Chicago and Compton.
-Washington, D.C. has one of the highest robbery and murder rates among large U.S. cities nationwide with numerous assaults and robberies on Congressional staffers and Members of Congress. In May, two embassy staffers were murdered.
-In June, a Congressional intern was fatally shot just a short distance from the White House.
-Just days ago, a Trump Administration staffer was mercilessly beaten by a violent mob.

President Donald Trump invoked presidential authorities over Washington, D.C. on Monday, federalizing municipal autonomy that he claimed has failed to stanch the squandering of a once-great city now beset by homelessness, petty crime, and pervasive lawlessness.

At a press conference, the president announced the administration is taking “historic action” to “take the capital back,” including introducing National Guardsmen and FBI agents to patrol the city’s streets at night. He cited Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which immediately places the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department under federal control.

The goal of coordinating local and state authorities under the White House is to “reestablish law and order,” Trump said.

“You’ll be meeting the people that will be directly involved with that,” he promised.

“Very good people, but they’re tough… and they know what’s happening.”

“This is Liberation Day in DC, and we’re going to take our capital back,” Trump said at the White House. “Our capital city has been overtaken by violent gangs and bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged out maniacs, and homeless people, and we’re not going to let it happen any more.”
