California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could have used their efforts to safeguard illegal immigrants to rebuild areas of Los Angeles that were devastated by wildfires earlier this year, according to White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.

"For the amount of effort Bass and Newscum have put into sheltering criminal illegal aliens they could have fully rebuilt the Palisades by now with time and money to spare," Miller said in a post on X on Sunday.

Bass and Newsom attracted the ire of President Donald Trump in January after massive wildfires ravaged Los Angeles in January. Specifically, Trump accused Bass of "gross incompetence" and said Newsom should resign due to his state’s response to the natural disaster.

Altogether, Los Angeles suffered roughly $28.0 billion and $53.8 billion in property damage due to the fires, according to the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s Institute for Applied Economics.

Dems resent Americans.  That's the only explanation for their infatuation with normalizing and mainstreaming illegal alien law breakers, and prioritizing their welfare over the welfare of their legal constituents.

The poor are the big losers.  They have to millions of illegal aliens to compete against for the few table scraps limousine liberals are willing to throw their way.

FACT CHECK: Just as a point of reference...
The Palisades Fire destroyed 6,837 structures, with 1,017 more damaged.
The Eaton Fire destroyed at least 9,418 structures, with an additional 1,071 damaged.

As of late August 2025, the number of permits issued for rebuilding homes destroyed in the Palisades Fire varies by jurisdiction:
-  Under your leadership, the City of Los Angeles has issued 54 permits for 40 addresses related to rebuilding efforts.
- Los Angeles County has issued 157 building permits for rebuilds in areas affected by both the Palisades and Eaton fires.
- The City of Malibu has issued its first rebuild permit for a home destroyed in the fire.

This may not normally qualify for a victory lap, but you qualified your comment by adding, "Los Angeles is on track for one of the fastest disaster recoveries in state history." Given California's record for favoring political rhetoric over action, you may be correct. In today's political environment, you might get away with a "Mostly Correct (but blatantly misleading" FACT CHECK assessment.
