Surprise! Jaguar Cuts 500 Management Jobs After Woke Rebrand

Simon Kent 17 Jul 2025

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is looking to cut 500 management jobs as it copes with falling sales and brand management issues in the wake of its much-maligned woke repositioning efforts.

Last week, the legendary British carmaker revealed a drop in sales in the three months to June blamed on slow exports to the U.S. because of tariffs and the planned wind-down of older Jaguar models.

Leftist UK Prime Minister had noted that tariff imposition and gave his promise he would protect the jobs of Jaguar workers, a hollow vow that has now been defeated by events.

The BBC reports JLR said it would launch a voluntary redundancy scheme while predicting the reduction was not expected to exceed 1.5 percent of its British workforce.

The firm described the sacking of 500 management staff as “normal business practice.”

Car industry expert Professor David Bailey of the Birmingham Business School told the BBC that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 10 percent tariff on British cars exported to the U.S.  “play a big role in this.”

When Jaguar started running these woke commercials, I thought, they were gravely out of step with what was happening in the USA.  Did they not observe the hit Budweiser took with Bud Light?  I thought they lost their minds.

And I suspect in reality, it is the woke nonsense that cost them more than any tariff.  They are using the tariff as cover for their idiocy.

This woke nonsense in the USA is on life support.  It is not dead, yet, but I am hoping we come to see the last of it while Trump is POTUS.

I would never purchase either brand.  Land Rover from what I read have serious transmission issues along with many other things going wrong that are not easy or cheap to repair, and Jaguars had a history of electrical problems, but a friend told me when Ford bought them, they had improved a good bit on that issue.  I still would not own one.  British cars are inferior IMHO.

Although I will say, if I won big on the lottery, I would get an Aston Martin, the car of Bond.  I think they have always been one of the better looking sports cars.

I agree.  However owners told horror stories about their reliability back then!

Me, too. I passed on a hardtop in Virginia in the 80s because I'd have had a hard time getting it worked on, and really, it would only have been a summer vehicle. I wish I hadn't...

None for me thanks. I'm a Bowtie boy, all the dang way. Pontiac too. Old iron... Give me half the money that thing costs, and I will make a ground-pounder that will eat that thing's lunch.

At one time a Mustang was my dream car. I had a '66. Sold it a couple of years ago. My second dream car was a Jag. Never had one and never will now...too hard to get in and out of...for me at least. Today, my third dream car is a Bentley. Unless my trees start growing $1000 bills...won't ever happen.

One out of three ain't bad.  The Ridgeline I drive serves me well.

DEI has ntohing to do with showing up your frien-emies at the Country Club or the Social Club.

Paying too much for a crappy car shows that you are so rich that you can afford to waste money on paying too much for crappy cars.

I was tempted, and could have bought it for 3 grand. Had the money, too, but didn't pull the trigger. I always liked going fast but realized they only do that in tip-top condition. I could afford the car, but as the saying goes, if you have an English car, you need to be able to afford to have a mechanic for it on staff...

I'm with you on the bowties, though. I have built small block engines (350s) and would rather do that than another FE Block Ford.

Back in 72’. Y brother had a 1966 XKE roadster, when he went in the navy he asked me to keep the michelins rotated, I heard take it out keep the tires round😁 Even back then it was interesting getting in and out of the car, today I migt get in but getting out would require assistance. I must say though that the car was a heck of a lot of fun to drive.

Modern Jag drivetrains are nothing more than blueprinted chevys. The coach work is all Jag.

Never owned a Hawk, but I did get to drive one (on loan from a guy I worked for). Great car.

My 1/2 ton Dodge is 38 this year, just two more years and it gets pioneer plates. Daily driver is a 26 year old Suburban, and there's a one ton Express Van that turned 25 this year. It's nice living where vehicles don't rust away. I have been trimming the herd, and sold 4 pickups so far this year.

That was my first car in high school, R1 engine and drive line, I surprised more than one kid driving against his mustang. I lost it when a kid in a 65 Ranchero ran a red and T-boned me in the drivers door at 45 mph. I limped away(sort of, gimped me for life) but the frame was wrecked, even then I drove it home. The one in the picture is a 64 last year, mine was a 63 and the same color. I had another briefly many years later, also Avanti driveline.

Mine had the R2 (supercharged) engine and Mustangs had no chance. @GtHawk

I sold it to a friend in 1966 and bought a brand new Plymouth Barracuda GT (another Mustang killer).
