Democrats invited a morbidly obese woman to defend food stamps in Congress Wednesday, and viewers on X were quick to point out the irony of the situation.

Felicia, a single mother of four, said she has relied on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) since her oldest child was born, in a video posted by Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

“When I had my oldest daughter 21 years ago, I was working three jobs,” she tearfully told lawmakers. “One job alone I had to pay childcare, another one to pay food, which wasn’t enough. And one to pay the bills, and I still struggled alive.”

Felecia now works a full-time job as a bus monitor and driver for a school district in Kansas City, Missouri, according to her testimony. She said that with the school’s payment schedule, she gets paid once a month. By the time she pays her bills, she has no money left for food and other basic necessities, according to the video.

“If it wasn’t for SNAP benefits, I wouldn’t be able to feed my children or myself,” she said.

How long do we have to reward people for their life of bad choices?
You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

If she went on a hunger strike, how many years would it take for her to die?

Dems were savvy enough to roll out a white welfare queen.

That's not really fair ... nobody chooses a life of poverty.

Bad things can happen to people, through no fault of their own - marriage breakdowns, abusive employers, company closes leaving workers unemployed, accident or injury - that can lead to real economic hardship. Even for good people.

And once in that hole, it's hard to get out - a situation not at all helped by the "Gee, I guess they like being poor, har har har" attitude that some people who (luckily) never experienced poverty have. She was working 3 jobs, let's cut her some slack.

Not trying to crap on you WN, just saying the situation is more complex than some realize ... yes, there's always some irresponsible people who do live recklessly, but there's also a lot of good people, caught up in the s-show, struggling ...

I agree. But the optics might be better if they put skinny people behind the microphone.

It is a long struggle to get from being able to carry your belongings on your back to living in a house you own, and farther yet for those who got to the bottom through bad choices that led to addiction or alcoholism. The latter have a long climb to zero, and I know a few who have made the comeback.

For those who have never been there, who haven't been down, count your blessings and don't rush to judgement. Middle class existence is far more fragile than you realize.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Not only is she 300+ pounds, she has two children old enough to work, who could be helping her support the family. Instead, I suspect, they're at home pounding away on iPhones and Playstations.

Amy Klobuchar picked the wrong gal to try and make us feel sorry for GOP’s food stamp cut
June 13, 2025 | Tom Tillison

Count on Democrats to put a face to Republican efforts to cut federal benefits, rolling out potential victims who elicit the most sympathy so the media can broadcast their plight to the nation.

But Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s choice to counter a significant GOP cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) was not exactly from central casting.

SNAP helps feed more than 40 million low-income Americans, which is a crisis all to itself that DC conveniently overlooks, and Republicans are advocating for nearly $300 billion in cuts through 2034, which includes pushing some of the costs down to states. Doing her part, the Democrat senator from Minnesota highlighted a morbidly obese woman named Felecia, who testified before the House Committee on Agriculture.

“Today, we heard from Felecia, a single mom of four who works up to three jobs at a time to make ends meet. She counts on SNAP to help put food on the table,” Klobuchar said of the plus-size woman. “This is who Republicans in Congress are trying to take food away from.”

Why are we giving out food stamps to people who are overweight?  Lose weight first.  Then you can qualify for food stamps.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

This may be related to all the many years people have been able to buy snacks, pop, candy and the like with their SNAP - the thing RFKJr., et al., are trying to stop. Maybe they wouldn't be quite so overweight if they weren't buying crap with their foodstamps.

I'm pretty poor right now. A jar of peanut butter and some whole wheat bread goes farther than you might realize, all for under $5. Just don't buy the fancy shit.

I know. Can't tell you how many years the sum total of my grocery shopping was eggs, cheese, and bread.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
I went a week without food back in my Grad School days. I didn't know about soup kitchens, food pantries, or any of that.

I swore "Never Again".

A few years later, laid off and destitute in an area devastated by the oil price crash of '82, I lived off 'the king's' deer. I was not alone. Many of the social food programs in this area got their start in that era.

Now, I keep the pantry stocked as best I can, and will always retain the means to harvest more food if need be.

I have no problems with rolling back the benefits for illegals. Maybe the price of steak will come back down.
If people  want to sell people on how good food stamps are, maybe send out reps with a mere double digit BMI.
