'Another endless conflict': Democrat echoes Trump's anti-war stance

A Senate Democrat wants to ensure that Congress can weigh in before the U.S. leaps into "another endless conflict" in the Middle East, a sentiment shared by President Donald Trump.

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., on Monday introduced a resolution that would require Congress to debate and vote before any U.S. force is used against Iran. Kaine said in a statement that it was "not in our national security interest to get into a war with Iran unless that war is absolutely necessary to defend the United States."

"I am deeply concerned that the recent escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran could quickly pull the United States into another endless conflict," he said. "The American people have no interest in sending service members to fight another forever war in the Middle East."

"This resolution will ensure that if we decide to place our nation’s men and women in uniform into harm’s way, we will have a debate and vote on it in Congress," Kaine continued.

Kaine’s sentiment is similar to that of Trump, his former opponent in the 2016 election, when the lawmaker ran alongside former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Trump has painted himself as the consummate anti-war president, vowing during his first term and on the campaign trail during the 2024 election cycle to cease endless wars like those started at the beginning of this century in Afghanistan and Iraq.

However, he noted on Sunday in an interview with ABC News that "it’s possible" the U.S. will get involved amid reports that Israel made a plea for America to join the fray.

Iran Cries Uncle: Wants to End Israeli Attacks, Negotiate with Trump

Iran has sent messages to both Israel and the United States that it wants to end the war and to negotiate with President Donald Trump, and could give up its nuclear enrichment program to save the Iranian regime.

Reports of Iran’s eagerness to end the fight came as Israeli fighters attacked regime institutions in the capital city of Tehran, including the state broadcaster, after achieving total dominance of Iranian airspace.

The Wall Street Journal reported:

    Iran has been urgently signaling that it seeks an end to hostilities and resumption of talks over its nuclear programs, sending messages to Israel and the U.S. via Arab intermediaries, Middle Eastern and European officials said.

    In the midst of a ferocious Israeli air campaign, Tehran has told Arab officials it would be open to returning to the negotiating table as long as the U.S. doesn’t join the attack, the officials said. Iran also passed messages to Israel saying it is in the interest of both sides to keep the violence contained.

    Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the attacks will continue until Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missiles are destroyed, and he has shown no indication he is ready to stop. He has also said regime change isn’t a goal but could be a result given the Iranian leadership’s weakness.

Israel is unlikely to relent until it has destroyed most or all of Iran’s ballistic missile launchers, which have continued to fire barrages at Israeli civilians, usually at night. It may also continue fighting to destroy as much of Iran’s remaining nuclear facilities as possible.

It is also unclear whether Iran had explictly offered to end nuclear enrichment program, as the U.S. had demanded before the war. The Journal suggested Iran had not conceded that point, but wants the war to end.

President Trump had earlier said that he wants to keep the U.S. out of the war. But the U.S. has also been moving military assets into position to assist Israel.

Speaking next to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday at the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, Trump confirmed that he had received Iran’s messages about wanting to end the war.

“They’d like to talk, but they should have done that before,” Trump said, responding to questions from reporters. “I had 60 days, and they had 60 days, and on the 61st day, I said, ‘We don’t have a deal.’

“They have to make a deal. And it’s painful for both parties. But I’d say Iran is not winning this war. And they should talk, and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”

It is not uncommon for the USA to position assets near areas of conflict.  It does not mean we are getting ready to jump off and go to war.

And I was wrong about the B-52s.  I say we Lend Lease 2-4 B-2 bombers to Israel to end the Iranian nuclear program properly and swiftly.  That keeps us out of the fight, and enables Israel to cripple the Iranians for 3-5 years only to do it again.

The Iranian leader claiming innocence and that Israel is the aggressor is laughable.  I disagree with the mindset of leaving the civilian leaders of Iran untouched.  If Israel has the ability to hit them, I say kill them all.  Cut the head of the snake, and maybe someone who is not a genocidal maniac rises to take their place.  Iran cannot be treated like a sane nation.  It is anything but that.

The outage of National Television is a real and tangible situation which reaches every home in Iran. This will represent that Iran is losing the war to the general population. It is difficult for the Iranian Government to claim they will destroy Israel when the government cannot keep the TV on, electricity is out, everything is on fire, and smoke is everywhere.

We don't typically agree but we do on this. Most younger people have not been taught or read history and rely on the internet for information.

IMO, While your postulate has some limited historical merit it is no longer apt in the world of today. My understanding of dark-ages and medieval Christianity is that it was similar to Islam today. Anyone who was not Christian, or was not a specific version of Christianity, was called a 'heretic', which was viewed as somewhat less than human in that era. And yes, I agree that if Christian leaders had a nuclear weapons in the early centuries after the first millennium it is quite likely that they would have used them to wipe all non-Christian people everywhere.

Heretic/Heathen was the Christian version of what Islam calls 'Infidels'. In both cases, people who are given that epithet could be killed and abused with almost no consequences. Entire tribes were slaughtered and/or compelled to be of the Christian faith in Africa, America, South America, and on conquered islands throughout the world in the name of Christianity. Islam did the same across Africa, Asia, parts of Europe, and all over the Middle East.

The difference is that Christianity moderated over the centuries. I have never met a Christian in my life who believes all non-Christians should be killed across the entire globe. Christians would never think of or even imagine repeating the heinous behaviors from a thousand years ago. Conversely, Islam still preaches these tenets today. The Islamic religion is stuck in time. Islam did not moderate or mature over the ages. Islam behaves in terms of women, laws, and infidels, as if the world is currently as it was a thousand year ago. Islam still believes that all 'infidels' worldwide should be slaughtered.

There are no Christians who are blowing up buses and airplanes for Jesus. There are no Christians who believe that all non-Christians should be enslaved, or tortured and killed for refusing to convert. However, these beliefs are some of the core tenets of Islam today, not a thousand year ago, today and right now.

Comparing Christianity to Iran in the current times is imbecilic. While the two cultures may have had some similar sentiments centuries ago, today the faiths polar opposites of each other. It is foolish to believe that Islam and Christianity are similar faiths and cultures because they both await a messiah.

Trump isn't going to pay Iran shit. Trump is very much against nation-building and he has no tolerance for taking money away from Americans to pay some Senator's cousin 100 million dollars to rebuild houses in some warzone (which never seem to actually get built). You have to look to Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama/Biden for all that crap. They were famous for it.

By the way, although the money was allocated to rebuild this or that, very little of it actually made it overseas to where it was 'supposed' to go. Most of the money never left America. Trump knows what is really going on. He is not going to fall for those 'good ol boy' insider D.C. shell games.
