Beaucracy is structured to resist and obstruct radical, rapid change. That's why business types are frustrated trying to get things done in DC.
Elon Musk is one of the richest, most brilliant men in the world. That is a given. But in the realm of operations improvement, he is a green pea. Trump, who is easily impressed, i.e. Musk's reducing 80% of the workforce of a company he owned outright, big f***ing deal.
I have spent the better part of a lifetime streamlining operations in commercial and government operations, and the savings with the federal government could have been 3x, or 4x what Musk realized, with no drama, no lawsuits. What he did was not even green pea quality work. Almost everything will be undone by the courts, or a following administration. Sad, but true.
What Trump/Musk have done is totally alienate a workforce of 12 million people working for the federal government. And believe me, they are not already Dems. Many are Republican, but they will not be voting Republican come November, 2026. This is what comes of using folks way out of their element. Musk should stick to engineering, because on operations improvement, he is clueless.
There is no reason improvements cannot be made in government operations. I have done it many times, and there is a right approach, and a wrong approach, and then their is the Trump/Musk way, the wrong approach on steroids. All of you on these boards get tired of me saying negative things, but I do not want Trump removed from office come February, 2027, and that is what he is building to. All of you tend to forget the maxim it only takes one aw-sh*t to wipe out 1,000 that-a-boys. Well, that is still a truism today, and you will see it happen.
The savings realized by Musk where there is abuse, fraud, etc, all that is brilliant. But the efforts with the federal workforce, which I believe is a huge part of why Musk is leaving, those efforts are a disaster. And it will be down hill until the election in November, 2026 unless the Trump people get advice on operations improvement from folks that know what they are talking about.
Threatening folks every day they come to work is idiotic. That accomplishes a big fat nothing. Actually, it reduces productivity dramatically, something Trump appears to be obtuse about.
I would love to sit with him and enlighten him. It would take less than one hour to lay out an approach that would generate what he wants. But I am not a billionaire.
