Some are declaring victory too early. For example, how many actual trade deals do we have? That “90 deals in 90 days” promise made back in April is coming up awfully quick.
And how many more times will he back down? I predicted that when he got close to that 90 days, the administration will move the goalposts and it looks like I’m right
On Thursday, the Trump administration officially backed down from the "90 deals in 90 days" posturing. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the early July deadline for re-implementing those paused tariffs was "not critical." Whether the paused "Liberation Day" tariffs return in early July is "a decision for the president to make," she added.
On Friday morning, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said trade negotiations will continue until at least September 1, effectively giving the administration an extra 60 days to deliver those 90 deals.
Of course, that also means the uncertainty of the trade war will continue for businesses that have to plan purchases more than a few months ahead.
What's becoming more certain is that Trump's second-term trade war has failed on its own terms. That's evidently not only in the lack of new trade deals that have been delivered, but also in two other data points that crystallized this week.
First, data from the Commerce Department showed that America's trade deficit—the gap between the value of all imports and all exports—widened to $96.6 billion in May. That's an 11 percent increase over April. The main culprit in the growing trade deficit was a decline in exports (which fell by $9.7 billion) even as imports stayed flat.

So more TACO
What a joke...
(1) No one expected Trump's timeline to go as plan... Hell, he has 50 balls to juggle in the air at once. Several of the big actors at or near might include China, UK, Japan, and SK are within sight. That on a weighed basis, is well over 50% of our trade volume. So just what do you freakin' want ....Magic? Yes, Trump infers Bravado, but that is part of the charm, and part of strong leadership. When I was a Manager at a Plant, I'd set almost impossible goals, so that the team was energized to move mountains. Trump does the same.
(2) Very telling you use the dim and liberal "TACO" bullshit meme that the dims parrot. Are you one of them? Did Trump "TACO" last week with Iran? I used tp think TDS was a fallacy outside the socialist......., thanks.... you are proving me wrong.
(3). You also apparently have little knowledge of Calvin Coolidge's philosophy of only using Tariffs as a strategy when you basically are having your trading partners screw you over. Silent Cal viewed tariffs as just one tool in the economic toolbox to keep to keep trading partners honest.... Is Coolidge a "TACO" too? You do not understand the intricacies negotiations, and that we finally have a POTUS who cowers to others, and is bleeding us dry.
(4) Citing click bait as a narrative? You are better than that. Why not quote people like Kudlow, and other economist who might have a better idea than that silly source.
(5) and using the fecal trump smiley? That alone demonstrates your silliness on this matter. Let the adults discuss.... okay?
And again, I have enjoyed some of your posts, but you are in an area you have little or no understanding. Again.... you can do better.
