Liberal fury over billionaire developer's plan to turn pristine New Jersey woods into affordable housing

New Jersey residents are furious that a billionaire developer wants to bulldoze a 120-acre wooded area to build affordable housing in the predominately liberal town.

The Wilf family - which includes Minnesota Vikings co-owner Zygi Wilf - have been given the greenlight to build a large affordable housing development in a forest on top of a mountain in West Orange, New Jersey, near Newark.
 
The wealthy clan owns the wooded area, where they are proposing to build 500 apartments - 100 of them dedicated to affordable housing - which would significantly help West Orange's state-mandated obligation to build low-income housing, according to Gothamist.

However, the extremely liberal area - where Democrats outweigh Republics five-to-one - isn't welcoming the idea of knocking trees in favor of concrete, as locals worry about the risk of flooding.

That's suburban Jersey -- crowded now, and not really where I'd want to be.

More development?
Might make it a little worse.
But not all that much "worse" than the place is now...

I think that is absolutely true. It's like a couple of wives I have known in the past. They want gobs of money but want their husbands home all the time.
