War and Peace: Trump to Talk With Putin on Tuesday in Hopes of Ukraine Deal, Dividing ‘Land, Power Plants’

Oliver JJ Lane 17 Mar 2025

President Donald Trump confirmed that he is set to hold Ukraine war peace talks with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday this week, saying land and power plants are among the items on the agenda for how a post-war Ukraine will look.

Negotiations over the future of the Ukraine War have been continuing behind closed doors between the United States of America and the Russian Federation, President Trump said, as he revealed that leader talks are scheduled for Tuesday.

President Trump greeted journalists aboard Air Force One as he flew from Florida to Washington D.C. late Sunday night and opened with thoughts on the Ukraine War before taking questions. Summarising the advances in communications with Russia in recent days — which, until weeks ago, the two countries had been out of contact for years, following the Biden Presidency’s freeze in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine — President Trump remarked: “We learned a lot, we’re doing pretty well I think with Russia. We’ll see if we have something to announce maybe, by Tuesday.”

Confirming that a personal discussion with President Putin is going ahead this week, as earlier briefed, President Trump continued: “I’ll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday, a lot of work has been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end. Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think we have a very good chance.”

Russia has agreed to a temporary ceasefire of Ukrainian energy targets lasting 30 days following negotiations with President Trump. The negotiations have angered liberals, who say Trump is pro-Putin and that the war must continue so Ukraine can win.

Trump, Putin agree to begin ceasefire negotiations in Middle East, White House says
Trump, Putin spoke for at least 90 minutes Tuesday, the White House said.

President Donald Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin for at least 90 minutes Tuesday about ending the war in Ukraine, the White House said, noting that the two leaders agreed that "negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East."

The two leaders also agreed to a ceasefire against energy infrastructure, both sides said.

The call began at 10 a.m. ET, according to White House spokesman Dan Scavino. The White House then said around 12:52 p.m. that the call was over, though it would not say initially exactly when each side hung up.

"Today, President Trump and President Putin spoke about the need for peace and a ceasefire in the Ukraine war. Both leaders agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace," the White House said in a statement after the call. "They also stressed the need for improved bilateral relations between the United States and Russia. The blood and treasure that both Ukraine and Russia have been spending in this war would be better spent on the needs of their people.

"This conflict should never have started and should have been ended long ago with sincere and good faith peace efforts. The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with an energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, full ceasefire and permanent peace," it continued. "These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East."

OK, folks, here's how it's gonna work out in the end.

Mr. Trump will work up a deal with Russia.
It will probably give Russia the Russian-speaking areas of Ukraine, and forbid the Ukes from joining NATO. It may or may NOT include some kind of peacekeeping/observational forces on the Ukrainian side.

Since Ukraine refuses to participate in the peace negotiations -- and I almost 100% predict that they will REFUSE to negotiate at all -- "the deal" is going to be made WITHOUT them, and it will be handed to them as "take it or leave it".

If they leave it, they'll face destruction from Russia.
My guess is that they'll take it.

Or... they will "GET it", without a choice.
An offa they can't refuse.

It's called "realpolitik".
That's how I see it, and I'm not backing off.

So come on, zeepers -- give it your best shot.

What you say is possibly true. I think it depends largely on what Europe/Britain does. If they put boots on the ground in Ukraine then we will be obliged to defend them if Russia causes harm thru our NATO alliance. It's one of those d*amned if you do, d*amned if you don't situations.

That aside, if Ukraine is sacrificed to satisfy Trump's "I'll end it in one day" promise or try to build his legacy...then it will be a huge tragedy.

Zelensky has rejected Trump’s proposal outright. He refuses the minerals deal, does not consider U.S. military aid a debt, and will not enter into direct negotiations with Putin. Does he want peace?

In other words, he sees through Trumps lies and will not cooperate with the partition of Ukraine and its enslavement to Russia.

Enslavement to Russia is not peace, it’s slavery.

Once again, folks, please re-read my reply #8 above.

I predict with almost 100% assurance that this is how it's going to go.

And Putin/Russia will see this as permission to invade the Baltics.

Zelensky Launches Scathing New Attack on Trump Team – ‘He’s Good at Real Estate, This is Different.’ | Christopher Tomlinson, The National Pulse

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to make backhanded comments at the administration of President Donald J. Trump, claiming that Europe, unlike the United States, “has discipline and no chaos.” He also accused members of the administration of falling for Russian propaganda surrounding the conflict, in comments reported by the BBC this week.

Zelensky singled out a friend of President Trump, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who recently appeared in an interview with Tucker Carlson and spoke at length about the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“I think that Witkoff often quotes the Kremlin narratives… I can’t be ungrateful to the Americans for everything they did, but they are often, unfortunately, under the influence of Russian narratives,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader went on to seemingly insult Witkoff, saying, “He doesn’t look like a military man. He doesn’t look like a general, and he doesn’t have such experience. As far as I know, he is very good at selling and buying real estate. And this is a little different.” Zelensky, a former television comedian, also has no prior military command experience.

The remarks come just weeks after a disrespectful Zelensky was kicked out of the White House after President Trump warned him that he was gambling with World War Three. While Zelensky attempted to apologize for his behavior, Ukrainian officials continued attacking the Trump administration.

Since Ukraine refuses to participate in the peace negotiations...

Refusing to participate in direct negotiations is not the same as refusing to participate in negotiations.  Representatives of Hamas and Israel never spoke to each other, but they both participated in negotiations the led to the now-defunct cease-fire and the release of a lot of the Israeli hostages.
And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

Seems like just a week or so ago, Zelensky got pissed because he was not invited to participate in a meeting between the Russian team and the U.S. team.
