Trump has accomplished something unusual, he has managed to change the purchasing habits of Canadians.

It is now common to see consumers in the stores here check to see where a product is made - and if it comes from the States, they ain't buying, they'll find an alternative- and price doesn't matter anymore.

Many Canadians who used to vacation to the US regularly, say they won't go there anymore ... it will be real interesting to the see the US tourism and export numbers in a few months ...

Is that American 25% or Canadian 25%?

Trudeau tells Trump 'we will not back down' from trade war, calling tariffs 'very dumb'
Trudeau said the "United States launched a trade war against Canada"

By Greg Norman FOXBusiness

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slammed the Trump administration’s new 25% tariffs Tuesday, calling the measures "very dumb" and vowing that his country "will not back down from a fight."

Trudeau previously announced 25% retaliatory tariffs on American goods in response to President Donald Trump's tariffs that went into effect on Canadian imports.

"So today the United States launched a trade war against Canada, their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they are talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin, a lying, murderous dictator. Make that make sense," Trudeau told reporters.

"Canadians are reasonable, and we are polite, but we will not back down from a fight, not when our country and the wellbeing of everyone in it is at stake," he continued.

Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!

And then Canada will increase their tariff by the same amount ... and so on, and so on ... as both economies get destroyed

All because Trump has a petty personal grudge with Trudeau

Brilliant strategy there, Team Trump ... create a trade war when none existed before

If tariffs are so bad, why did Canada already have tariffs on US Goods.  Trump didn't start this.  But by God, he'll finish it.

I have complete faith in Trump's economic decisions and capabilities.  I am not worried about Trudy in the least, nor Canada.  The only player in the game this has been sitting quietly watching all of this is XI.  China is a concern, though I think Trump is likely one step ahead of him.

BTW @Canuck Conservative when do you think Canada will contribute their fair share to NATO?  If the U.S. pulls out of NATO, those lost $$ will need to be recouped.

Apparently you didn't get the memo:

Plus it makes for good buying opportunities.  If the market hasn't already started to recover the losses, it will by the end of the week.   Your average investor is in the market for the long haul.

 Interesting!

If you have access to a unfrozen calculator, might I suggest you plot your number of Canadian brethren, boycotting USA products, vs. USA brethren boycotting Canadian products. On my semi frozen math device, I come up with a discrepancy of around 8.5/9 to 1.

Divide that along any party lines you like and then explain to all us meany Trump supporters how Canada comes out on top before destroying their economy which is "largely" based off US consumption of your products.

I'm sure I''m missing your "logic" somehow.

We now how to shop by country as well.

As an aside, I read "art of the deal" Trump mentions always enter into a deal with leverage, I'm not seeing yours.

Excerpt:
President Donald Trump has fired back at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau—whom he sarcastically dubbed “Governor Trudeau”—in a blistering response that threatens to escalate a brewing trade war into a full-blown brawl. Earlier today, Trump’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico took effect, slapping a 25% duty on most Canadian goods and a 10% on Canadian energy exports, prompting Trudeau to dig in his heels. During a fiery press conference in Ottawa, Trudeau vowed not to back down, announcing 25% tariffs on $155 billion Canadian dollars’ worth of U.S. goods—$30 billion immediately, with the rest kicking in 21 days, per CNN. “There’s absolutely no justification or need whatsoever” for Trump’s tariffs, Trudeau fumed, calling out the U.S. for cozying up to Russia’s “lying, murderous dictator” Vladimir Putin while targeting its “closest partner and ally.”

The #1 US has a GDP 13 times that of #9 Canadian.

Only a fully committed Globalist tool like Little Fidel Trudeau could pretend that a tariff war with the US is in Canada’s, “best interest.”

Damn Justine. Wouldn't it have been easier to just secure your border? That's ALL that was asked.
