Musk Email Demands All Federal Employees Justify Their Paychecks By Monday Night or Resign

Subject Line: “What did you do last week?”

Legal Insurrection  by Elizabeth Stauffer 2/23/2025

Earlier this month, a government worker at a Leesburg, Virginia, town hall revealed that members of the Department of Government Efficiency team were conducting 15-minute interviews with federal employees asking them to “justify their existence.” This would allow DOGE to determine if they were necessary to the agency or if they should be fired.

On Saturday afternoon, Elon Musk took things up a notch. In an ominous post on X, he wrote, “Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week.

Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.

    — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 22, 2025

Musk’s post followed President Donald Trump’s morning message on Truth Social: “ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE. REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!”

As promised, on Saturday evening, all federal workers received an email from the Office of Personnel Management asking them to list five tasks they had accomplished last week. The email requested that employees “cc” their responses to their managers and set a compliance deadline for Monday at 11:59 p.m. EST.

In the subject line of the email, federal employees were asked, “What did you do last week?” Next, they were instructed to “reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.”

Civil servants across the government are getting hit with an email this evening asking them to justify their jobs

Subject: What did you do last week?

“Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.”

Well there is the response Musk wants, but then there are other possible responses, would they qualify? I mean technically the employee would be responding.

Most everyone in the private sector with professional jobs has to prepare an activity report usually weekly, and at the least monthly.

Your continued defense of Fedzilla is puzzling

I am NOT defending the bureaucracy.  But there is a professional way to go about this, and there is what is becoming this crazy lunacy of Musk,  with Trump's endorsement which will result in next to nothing.

You cannot be honest to yourself, why?  Everything done by EO is subject to being changed with the next stinking Democommie.  You want that sh*t?  Really??

In a 1 hour conversation with Trump and Musk, I could save more money being spent than Musk has done in 1 month.  No joke.  He  is a billionaire that bought a company and cut 80% of the workforce.  He owned it, he could do just about whatever he wanted.  The same thing cannot be done with civil servants.

The approach being used by Musk is genuinely childish, with little to no knowledge, and will result in the courts undoing almost everything.

And I want Trump to be successful, and not impeached and REMOVED from office two years from now when America has had enough of the insanity and overwhelmingly returns both houses of Congress to the Democommies.

I know, you all think what they are doing will only add more voters to their column and strengthen the numbers for the Republicans.  Well, two years of this daily onslaught, and guess what, the people will grow tired of this nonsense.  One word characterizes it exactly   CHAOS!!!!!

Let me remind you of the two terms of George Bush.  Daily reports of the Terrorist Status, whether we were orange today, or red today, that bullsh*t grew real old.  And it had an adverse affect on the market through his presidency too.  Expect the same  with Trump.  Instability will cause the markets to fall.  Just like the Bush years.

If you have read my posts, I know the federal government can be reduced dramatically, but this is NOT the way to go about.  What Trump should be doing is bringing in professionals, that make a living for decades doing this kind of thing, and not a nutcase billionaire.  I don't give a damn how rich or smart he is, he does not know what he is doing.

This last memo is the FIRST effort by him and his team to take a look at the WORK.  Yes, contrary to what all of you believe, there is work being done by federal employees.  Cutting positions without real knowledge of the block of work is plain stupid.  I am sorry, but I do not believe in throwing mud up against the wall and seeing what sticks.  With the proper analysis, the exact number of people can be determined in a short period of time, the work can be identified, and determined what must be done versus what can be jettisoned, which also has an impact on the resources required.

But this carte blanc nonsense, is greatly lowering productivity, and is not in the best interest of the taxpayer.  And the taxpayer is my number one priority, for he/she has been forgotten for 50 years!!!!!!!!!

Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff actually said, 'if we break anything when we are done, we can always go back and fix it'.  I'm sorry, I just don't believe in this obtuse, moronic approach.  Hey, why don't they just burn all the buildings down while they are at and have employees stand out in the open air.  No heat or A/C to worry about, it will save millions, if not billions!

Musk goes on about possible employees dead still collecting a paycheck.  Well, I hope not, because the immediate supervisor should be terminated if that is the case.  There are always people looking to game the system.  But if management is doing their job, that kind of nonsense does not happen.  And yes, management at the federal government could be vastly improved.

What Musk is doing is destructive, and will not last and in many cases, will not get past the courts.

What is the real goal here?  If it is to save the taxpayer $$$, and if it is to improve productivity in the workforce, then this approach could not be more moronic.

And the very last thing I want to see is the Democommies coming back in 4 years, and certainly not 2 years, which I can envision happening.  I equate what is happening to the hurricane that wrought destruction on the mountains in North Carolina months ago.  Most of those folks in those hills thought it could never happen, just like most of you.  Once the damage is done, it is like the Titanic, hard to alter the course of impacting with a iceberg.  The HMS Titanic was considered unsinkable.  That's not the only thing that fits that analogy.

I would gladly fly to Washington tomorrow if I could get 15 minutes of Musk's time to explain how a different approach would produce lasting results, and would not get challenged by any stinking judge.  I hate judges as much as I hate Democommies, for both settle into a routine of abusing power.

I fully support good project management processes, namely the weekly report outlining what was accomplished for the week, what is planned for the following week, what are the outstanding issues, etc.  No problem with that at all.

But Musk issuing a dictate of providing a report listing accomplishments or else you are fired nonsense, that is RETARDED!!!!!!  The man is clueless.  Many in government are working on projects that have some level of security tied to it.  Trump is/will soon enough be looked at as a failure he lets this nut job continue to issue dictates that are off the wall like this.

There is a management structure for a reason.  When that structure is abdicated and replaced with a nut job running around issuing dictates on a daily basis, that causes CHAOS.  Maybe you want CHAOS, I don't.

Musk would be better served assessing the management structure currently in place, adjust it where necessary while determining the scope of work in each functional business unit before announcing we are getting rid of X employees and having no idea what the scope of work is.

Musk reminds me of a superintendent I dealt with one time at an electronics plant.  He said, "why can't we plan the work after we do it".  Verbatim quote.  The president of the company went on the floor that day, sat with him and had a talk.  He was fired at the end of the meeting.

Stupid is as stupid does.  This CHAOS will hurt my president, your president, and I do not want that!   PERIOD!!!!!

Hmmm.  Yes it do!

Sorry, but I don't get what all the whining is about. Not only do I do a daily report summarizing rig activity, but what we observed as well, with a copy of the geological log for the well, up to date. That's every day we are drilling.

Many people do what amounts to a daily update of their job progress, not just once a week.

So cry me a damned river. If you did anything, you should be able to throw down the essential bullet points.

It isn't like everything has to come to a screeching halt to do it, and it's just once.

Yeah. If they were real Americans, there would be a finger extended.

(I think you know which one.)

It's how we've rolled from day one, even if we found other ways to express the sentiment.
