Pope Francis’ hospital treatment dealing with ‘complex clinical’ condition, Vatican says

Pope Francis has a “polymicrobial infection” of his respiratory tract that will require his hospital treatment to be changed, the Vatican said Monday, with tests indicating a “complex clinical picture” for one of the oldest popes in the church’s history.

The test results implied a further change in treatment requiring “adequate hospitalization” for the 88-year-old pontiff – who has long been plagued by a string of lung-related medical struggles.

“The results of the tests carried out in recent days and today have demonstrated a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract that has led to a further change in therapy,” the Vatican said in a statement.

“All the tests carried out to date are indicative of a complex clinical picture that will require adequate hospitalization.”

Later on Monday, the Vatican confirmed the pope remained in a stable clinical condition – without fever – and is continuing his prescribed therapy.

“This morning, he received the Eucharist and subsequently dedicated himself to some work activities and reading texts,” a statement from the Vatican said.

The statement added that the pope was “touched” by the messages of affection he continues to receive. “In particular he intends to express his thanks to those who are currently hospitalized, for the affection and love that they express through the drawings and good wishes,” it said.

“He prays for them and asks that they pray for him,” it added.

Polymicrobial infections are acute and chronic diseases that can be caused by a combination of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, according to the US National Insititutes of Health.

Worshipers outside the Vatican expressed concern over the pope’s diagnosis and wished him a steady recovery. “We certainly wish for him to get better very quickly,” Rev. Tyler Carter, a US priest, told Reuters. “He is our father and our shepherd, and so we want his continued health and blessing.”

Manuel Rossi, a visitor from Milan, northern Italy, said: “I am 18 years old so I have seen few popes in my life, and am very close to him.

The word 'pretender' struck me. As an outsider, not Catholic, this Pope never seemed to be a particularly 'religious' person to me. He has always been much more political (Leftist) than religious in my opinion.

That's the way I have viewed this pope. He is far more political than religious; not a good thing.

You two echo my sentiments exactly. The last two Popes are in stark contrast to this usurper who is nothing more than a globalist shill who is doing immense harm to God's people.

Quite honestly @MeganC I don't think that Francis has that much time left serving as pope.  He's 88 years old and obviously his health isn't the greatest.

Whether or not there will be another pope is the question.  Predictions of some say no which indicates 'end times'.  I'm not so sure that I agree with that.

I agree. For now I pray our Catholic brethren in Christ will soon enough see a Godly man who loves his Savior assume the Throne of St. Peter and who will be worthy to wear the shoes of the Fisherman.  :0001:

An Irish saint's eerie prophecy that Pope Francis will be the last Pontiff

IrishCentral

Mar 26, 2022

In a series of 112 cryptic Latin phrases, the Irish saint "predicts" the Roman Catholic popes. He predicted there would be only one more pope after Benedict, and during his reign comes the end of the world. So Francis could be the last.

Saint Malachy's final prediction in full is: "In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.”

Pope Francis, who was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, chose his papal name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. One theory that seeks to confirm the Irish saint's final prophecy is that Saint Francis's father's name was Pietro, or Peter.

In 1139, then Archbishop Malachy went to Rome from Ireland to give an account of his affairs. While there, he received a strange vision about the future that included the name of every pope, 112 in all from his time, who would rule until the end of time. We are now at the last prophecy.

St. Malachy gave an account of his visions to Pope Innocent II, but the document remained unknown in the Roman Archives until its discovery in 1590.

His predictions are taken very seriously. As one report states: "In 1958, before the Conclave that would elect Pope John XXIII, Cardinal Spellman of New York hired a boat, filled it with sheep and sailed up and down the Tiber River, to show that he was 'pastor et nautor,' the motto attributed to the next Pope in the prophecies."

Based on the reported condition .... I'd recommend Ivermectin and zinc among other things! Then again, I'm no doctor.! BUT.... in his case it makes sense.

Ivermectin, zinc, quercetin, D and C.  It certainly couldn't hurt.  Unfortunately, once you are in the orbit of hospital care, good luck getting anything that's outside their treatment protocol.

The End of Times....

IF this pope should pass, then there would need to be a reason as to why another pope wouldn't be selected.  Perhaps tremendous upheaval in Rome/Europe and right now that is not outside the realm of possibilities. OR -- the Catholic church is for some reason abolished.

I need to watch the video up thread again and I need to finish reading the Book of Daniel in the Bible; I'm just about 1/2 way done.  I got side tracked.

His "hospital" is probably within the Vatican and is nothing like any normal mortal has experienced.

Anyone who is the leader of a Faith who does not trust The Almighty to keep the planet at a serviceable temperature is missing something, IMHO.

I would expect him to trust God with such matters and confine himself to serving God and His Church, not try to run the thermostat.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

BREAKING—Pope Francis diagnosed with “bilateral pneumonia”, according to statement from @HolySeePress.

“Laboratory tests, chest X-ray, and the Holy Father's clinical condition continue to present a complex picture.

The polymicrobial infection, which arose on a picture of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, and which required the use of cortisone antibiotic therapy, makes therapeutic treatment more complex.

The follow-up chest CT scan to which the Holy Father underwent this afternoon, prescribed by the Vatican health team and the medical team of the "A. Gemelli" Polyclinic Foundation, demonstrated the onset of bilateral pneumonia, which required additional drug therapy.

Nevertheless, Pope Francis is in good spirits.

This morning he received the Eucharist, and throughout the day he alternated rest with prayer and reading texts. He gives thanks for the closeness he feels at this time and asks, with a grateful heart, that we continue to pray for him.”

'Pope warns 'I may not survive' pneumonia': Pontiff, 88, 'rushes to tie up loose ends ahead of battle to succeed him'

Daily Mail
By DAVID AVERRE
19 February 2025

Pope Francis has told confidants that he may not survive a case of pneumonia that saw him hospitalised last week after doctors told him 'in no uncertain terms he was at risk of dying' if he stayed at the Vatican.

The pontiff, 88, was rushed to Rome's Gemelli hospital on Friday with significant chest pain, having resisted calls to leave the Vatican for days.

Doctors diagnosed him with a 'complex' respiratory infection and barred him from taking part in several engagements, with the Vatican cancelling or rescheduling his papal audiences this week.

The Vatican on Tuesday confirmed the pneumonia and said Francis' respiratory infection also involves asthmatic bronchitis, which requires the use of cortisone antibiotic treatment.

'Laboratory tests, chest X-ray, and the Holy Father's clinical condition continue to present a complex picture,' the Vatican said.

The infection is of particular concern because the Pope had part of his lung removed many years ago.

Now, two people close to the pontiff have claimed Francis told them that he 'might not make it this time', according to a report by Politico.

Perhaps cognizant of his limited time, the Pope has in recent weeks moved to 'tie up loose ends' and ensure the continuation of his legacy at a politically sensitive time for the Catholic Church.

Appointed pope in 2013, Francis has led a relatively progressive but controversial papacy that has seen women accede to key roles, the recognition of LGBT+ rights and the Vatican begin to address Catholic Church child abuse scandals.
