Had to pick up a few items and went to the Walmart Neighborhood market. I noticed that they were completely out of eggs and shelves were looking pretty thinned out.  It appears worse than during the pandemic - the tariffs haven't been implemented, so other than the bird flu b.s., I'm not sure what's going on.

IF food becomes scarce and price continue to rise; this isn't going to bode well for the Trump administration.

Egg purchase restrictions take effect at more major US grocery stores

Costco, Kroger and Whole Foods are among the growing list of grocers that are putting a purchasing limit on eggs as supply shortages persist.

Companies started imposing limits on the product as the shortage caused by outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, persists, causing a frenzy among shoppers. Droves of viral videos have surfaced in recent weeks, showing shoppers stockpiling eggs. One video posted on TikTok claimed that an entire section of eggs at a Costco was gone in less than 10 minutes.

Amazon-owned Whole Foods posted signs on its shelves notifying customers that customers can only buy three cartons of eggs at one time.

"We are currently experiencing difficulty sourcing eggs that meet our strict animal welfare standards," a sign posted at one of its stores in New York City read.

Kroger confirmed to FOX Business that some banner divisions are also limiting egg sales. At stores where limits are in place, the company is asking customers to only buy two dozen eggs per trip, a spokesperson told FOX Business.

Trader Joe's told FOX Business on Monday that it is limiting egg purchases to one dozen per customer, per day. The limit applies to every Trader Joe’s grocery store in the U.S., according to the company. .............

.................Not only are consumers feeling the effects of high egg prices at the grocery store, but they're facing surcharges at restaurants.

Notably, Waffle House, a Southern breakfast food chain, added a temporary 50 cent per egg surcharge to all of its menus last week. The company blamed the ongoing egg shortage for the dramatic increase in egg prices, saying that "consumers and restaurants are being forced to make difficult decisions." ......................

I'd be surprised if tariffs have anything to do with it - as opposed to Biden's USDA.

Bird flu virus is not B.S. @libertybele

A farmer in Ohio was interviewed on Newsnation last week. When he went to bed his chickens were fine. When he woke up 1/4 were dead and another 50% was lethargic and dying.  That is how fast bird flu wipes out these poultry farms

That is why the USDA comes in and  kills all the chickens pronto,

This bird flu is nasty stuff.

Hopefully Trump will take this virus serious...especiallyy since last week they found a mutated form of the virus in cows out West.

I definitely don't fault Trump. Notta.  He's doing just the opposite of Biden and will save us $$ in the long run.  We've got to reign in our spending otherwise, we won't have a country left.

There's going to be some 'pain' along the way, perhaps a lot of sacrificing and hopefully people will realize what Trump is trying to do.  I don't want my children and grandchildren to be swallowed by debt and know the freedoms I grew up with.

As for the bird flu -- I'm not all that convinced that it is so drastic.

Back when I lived in Virginia, when cars had chromed steel bumpers, there were some major poultry farms and processors in the area (Rockingham County). After talking with a few, the poultry barns were very limited access, and entry was described as 'like going through an airlock' with footbaths and sprayers to decontaminate people going in and coming out.

While that seemed extreme, it was simply presented as a means of keeping anything that got into one barn isolated from the others. Yes, that whole barn full of birds (often thousands) would likely be wiped out if a virus got in there.

I asked what they did then.

He said they called the poultry company they were raising the chickens for, and they came in and cleaned out the barn (all chickens were terminated, because those which survived might simply be carriers at that point), the barn scrupulously disinfected, and another load of baby chicks brought in.

The deal he had, the poultry company provided the chicks and the feed, and they raised them, getting paid so much per bird. Because a barn full going down meant lost production, those who worked the farm were very serious about maintaining that quarantine, to the point we were asked to stay at least 100 yards away from the barns when we were mapping the geology in the area.

We complied, not wanting to even chance messing up another man's living.

Have a friend who contracted with conagra to raise chickens. Same thing happened to him.  Lost his business because of idiots.

Livestock birds like chickens and ducks seem to be affected, but I wonder why it is we are not seeing crows, pigeons, seagulls, etc, out in the wild dropping off at a rapid rate.
It does make you wonder....

If only birds were affected, I'd think it might be natural. But cattle?

Elon needs to see where all the money went, but I'd bet there is a two or three degree separated link to a bio lab somewhere..

Has anyone noticed all the stories coming out of Mexico about all the chickens and ducks they have had to destroy because of bird flu?

I think everyone would agree that I am a few degrees off north.

But the strangest thing is I began freezing eggs a couple of years ago. Also, I bought a small 10lb drum of powdered eggs years ago and vacuum sealed them into bricks which I have barely used. Oddly enough, the egg thing does not really affect me all that much. Add powered eggs to any egg required dish and no one will know the difference. The only thing that I cannot create without buying are actual easy-over fried eggs. But pancakes, dessert cake, soups, or scrambled eggs are not a problem.

Yes, I buy fresh eggs normally. But I have plenty of stored egg-stocks to get by easily when they are not available, or are too expensive. Two to three months worth.

BTW, I am very skeptical of anything called 'virus' coming from the CDC. I am not sure if I can believe them about anything. Also, the fact that all of this happened on the day Trump was inaugurated is very strange.

Agreed.  I have several dozen eggs in the refrigerator, but I too have 10 lb. cans of powdered eggs, which will suffice.

IF indeed there is a pandemic-like bird flu going on, IMHO it was orchestrated.  Shelves are becoming bare again -- why?

Just my outlook; we're going to suffer some price hikes and some bare shelves for awhile -- but I am pretty darn confident this will be short lived IF and WHEN they start prosecuting people.
