I believe Biden (and his boss Obama) purposely wrecked economy with inflation to hamstring incoming Trump admin by exaggerating bird flu and ordering all the chickens to be killed. This is ridiculous overreaction. Trump should order stop to killing chickens and cows. Before eggs no longer exist, and steak too, or cost more than gold!

USDA Has Spent $1.25 Billion on Mass Culling for H5N1 Bird Flu—With Disastrous Consequences
In other words, farmers make more money from killing chickens than selling eggs. See how this works?

USDA Has Spent $1.25 Billion on Mass Culling for H5N1 Bird Flu—With Disastrous Consequences
The failed biosecurity strategy has driven egg prices to a 45-year high while wasting billions in taxpayer funds on indemnity payments.
Nicolas Hulscher, MPH
Feb 18, 2025

According to a recent USDA document titled, Payment of Indemnity and Compensation for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza:

As of November 2024, the costs associated with the ongoing [H5N1] outbreak have exceeded $1.4 billion, including $1.25 billion in indemnity and compensation payments. Of this, APHIS has spent approximately $227 million on indemnity payments to premises that have been infected multiple times with HPAI.

The strikingly large sum of indemnity payments not only incentivizes farmers to comply with state-run mass killing of their animals but also represents a serious misuse of taxpayer money, as mass culling triggers a cascade of severe downstream consequences. Here are four key reasons why the mass culling of poultry for H5N1 bird flu must end immediately:

Mass Culling Has Failed
Despite routinely killing the entire flock over an H5N1 bird flu PCR detection (41.4 million domesticated birds were culled in December 2024 and January 2025 alone), H5N1 continues to widely propagate among poultry ...

There's another aspect of this... Killing off en masse neglects the immunity process - Them that DO die ought rightly to be culled - That's nature doing her job. Them that survive, and all their progeny will be that much more resistant to that sort of thing. That too is nature doing her job.

Mass kill-offs short circuits that selective process. Any rancher/farmer will tell you that.

I wonder how people managed to survive for the thousands of years before the USDA existed.

Again?

We buy yard eggs  down the road from a lady who has chickens. I asked her about the Bird Flu reports, and she said neither her or 20 or so others she knows from Farmer's Markets are seeing any impact.

Folks, this isn't like in 2007 when we were watching black birds and crows chasing each other in a maddened state.  I am ready to call bullshit too.

With all the funding cutbacks the labs aren't keeping up with deliveries...?

Not sure there, but back in '07, I think we all remember having to pick up dead birds out of our yard.  I haven't seen one bit of evidence of that yet.  Is the left hoaxing us again?

Well, the egg crisis finally hit my neighborhood grocery store. Although there were plenty of eggs, there were buying restrictions. And 1/2 dozen eggs were $3.25!

The check out girl assured me this happens every year. Maybe so. I did take the eggs from the bagger guy and protected them like a mother hen all the way home.

they had been limited to two dozen per person for three weeks now at Safeway. I guess you could go in and out all day and buy several dozen but one dozen was almost eight dollar each last Sunday

Was at wallyworld and Publix today. Eggs are lower this week.  Florida sourced eggs are 4.25 a dozen.  Others are high $5.  YPMV depending on where you reside.

I still have almost a full carton of dozen Jumbo eggs - there Publix brand but so be it.  I'm set to do grocery shopping for the month in the next day or so -- so we'll see what the cost of eggs are.

Then comes Easter... I anticipate that the cost of eggs will continue to soar.

I guess that's here too, though prolly more like 6 bucks a dozen... Which is double or better.
I can't say for sure, because all my eggs come from the family farm. Though this time of year the eggs get narrow, because the chickens don't lay hard in the winter. Still with around 75 laying hens, that won't effect family consumption, just what's left over to sell.

Two days ago, zero eggs from our chickens, today only two... I thought a racoon got in the cage... never had a day without eggs, but with egg prices, lol, someone could be stealing them.

USDA Sec’y: We’re Starting to Import Eggs to Help Shortage, We’ll Also Lift Regulations, Have a Plan Coming Out

Ian Hanchett 26 Feb 2025

On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Bottom Line,” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said that the USDA will be rolling out a plan to deal with bird flu on Wednesday, the U.S. is beginning to import eggs to help deal with supply issues, and regulations that are increasing egg prices will be listed.

Rollins stated, “[W]e, at USDA, are, tomorrow, going to be rolling out a plan that addresses the avian flu directly. But I do think it’s really important for everyone to understand that this problem did not just happen overnight, and it will take us a little while to get our arms around it. Vaccinations will continue to be looked at and reviewed. Only a handful of countries around the world actually use vaccinations for their egg-laying hens, for their chickens.”

She added, “We are beginning to import. I just met with Ag. Commissioner of Texas Sid Miller (R), he let me know that they are working to import some eggs from the country of Turkey. … So, there will be some slight import, I think, to immediately address the shortage. But, eventually, we will get our arms around this. We will, hopefully, solve for the avian flu, we will get the cost of inputs down, we will lift regulations, and, ultimately, it is — again, it is not just one reason that eggs are so high, it’s a myriad of reasons that we are working to solve every day.”

Our gov't is paying large chicken companies hundreds of millions to slaughter chickens with natural immunity and then they earn more money to sell the scarce remaining eggs on the market.  This is the worst form of venture socialism and terrible epidemiology  ...
