Interesting.  So ... I'm one of those descendants.  (Though I 'm not quite sure I buy this story).

Blue-eyed people, listen up.

Ever wondered why your eyes are the colour they are? Well wonder no more.

Every blue eyed person is descended from a single European who lived around 6,000 to 10,000 years ago, according to scientists.

How did they work it out? Originally, all humans had brown eyes in various shades until there was a specific mutation that made the change.

The mutation is a gene called HERC2 and it switches off OCA2, the gene that determines how much brown pigment we make.

So that's why eyes become blue.

As for being descended from the same person, the evidence for this is because every blue eyed person alive today has this same mutation.

Scientists reckon only 8 to 10 per cent of the population have blue eyes and eyes don't fully develop in childhood meaning the brown pigment can kick in later, causing blue eyed children to end up with brown eyes in adulthood.

So if you have blue eyes, now you know - your family is a lot bigger than you might have thought previously.

A team at the University of Copenhagen released research on the subject.

Professor Hans Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine said: "Originally, we all had brown eyes. But a genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a ‘switch,’ which literally "turned off" the ability to produce brown eyes.".................

I am a blue-eyed blonde (mostly blondish-gray now).

The boundaries of Baltic lands because of numerous wars have been redrawn and renamed so many times, that it has become very difficult to trace family lineage - with my mother's side of the family born in Czechoslovakia (no longer in existence) and my father's side of the family born in Yugoslavia. (no  longer in existence).

Boat records/logs are usually a way to trace a family, but even with help from someone who has done genealogy for quite some time we came to a quick dead end, especially trying to obtain any records from what was once Czechoslovakia.   We have a few pieces to the puzzle to my ancestors in Yugoslavia, but even at that it's guess work.

Was with a Semitic girl from the Middle East. She had a mocca look. She was fascinated by blue eyes. She bought some kind of Zombie Blue contacts. I felt like a deer, looking into headlights. They were glowing blue.

They were killing her. She was crying all the time. But she refused to take them out. She was willing to tough it out, for those blue eyes. It was a terrible situation. Young and not mature, she wanted what she wanted. But what she wanted was not realistic or practical.

At least she didn't go the far far far off thing and get her eyes replaced. Yes, there are some people who pay for an eye transplant. They want those blue eyes ... i do not understand the obsession.

Actually, my eyes go from cornflower blue (when I am happy) to shades all the way down to slate gray (when I am pissed), and sometimes with green hues mixed in... Weirdo, I know...  :shrug:

I have blue eyes as well.  Both my great grandparents came from the blue areas of the map.  My great grandmother from the dark blue area and my great grandfather from the lighter blue area.  My dad had "Paul Newman" eyes. Mine are a little darker than his.

According to my Driver's License mine are blue... The wife's is green...

Honestly had to check my License to know... I just don't pay attention to those things in myself.  Don't really have a clue where/if the family originated... Don't think anyone has traced back that far...Wife is probable Swedish, me I imagine all over Europe ???

Parents, siblings, cousins, and I are blue-eyed. Our heritage is pretty much northern European: Norway, England, Ireland, Wales, Germany and a little French, just for the cuisine.

If ALL blue eyed people are descendants of the same person, how do you explain a Cuban immigrant I met a couple of weeks ago working at the Trump National Doral in Miami? Black hair, brown skin, and blue eyes. Said he had cousins who also had blue eyes.

Yup even if Tommy James and the Shondels toured with Hubert Humphrey in 1968, old Hubert even wrote liner notes for their next album Crimson and Clover. They actually had some pretty good songs.

Brown is the most common eye color worldwide by a large majority. In contrast, green is one of the rarest eye colors worldwide. The color of the eyes depends on how much melanin the eyes contain.

I think Violet eyes must be rare as well. Liz Taylor is the only person I have ever heard of that has violet eyes.
