Tarif's are, by their nature, regressive, and these will come back to bite Trump squarely in the arse once the dust settles.  The working class, the very people he's trying to help, will suffer most.

It really depends on how long it goes on.

Tarriff's are leverage for future negotiations.

Talking out your @$$ again I see. Tarriffs have zero effect on those who do not purchase foreign made products. Maybe bringing our manufacturing base back home would be a REALLY good thing. I, for one, know it would. Papa Bush can take his "NEW WORLD ORDER"  BS and shove it!

Dept. of Commerce needs to develop supply chain risk management strategies.

There should be more than (1) factory that makes the vast majority of medical saline.

There should be more than (1) plant that makes the vast majority of baby formula.

There should never be any medication shortages (WTF, are we living in the Soviet Union?)

Supply chain diversification and de-risking is essential to keep a lid on inflation and economic disruptions.

And how'd that work out with Smoot-Hawley in the 1930s?

You really need to work on pacing yourself. @Timber Rattler

A 30 day pause on Mexican tariffs has already been announced . Mexico agrees to send 10,000 Mexican troops to our border to stop drug and human crossing.  The teams for further negotiations are set.

Trump will hold a second call with Trudeau at 3:00 this afternoon.

Trump pauses tariffs on Mexico goods after talk with country's President Sheinbaum

Sheinbaum said both of them came to an agreement regarding trade and security

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Monday that tariffs will be paused for one month after a call with President Donald Trump.

She said both of them came to an agreement regarding trade and security.

No, go back and look at the history.  Smoot-Hawley worked for the first few months for Herbert Hoover too, but then crashed the U.S. economy further, just in time for the November 1932 election and FDR's resulting landslide.  Trump's playing with serious fire with these tariffs but it's out of vogue now to call out what tariff's actually do.  The foreign suppliers aren't going to be the ones paying but the American people..

History reflects that.  But we all know that the reason tariffs always failed in the past is because we didn't have the right people in charge running it.

This part I get.  The Art of the Deal, and all that.  What I don't get is that Trump already negotiated all this when he was in office before.  Mexico and Canada did exactly what Trump demanded and signed on the dotted line.  Except now, Trump says there is a problem with that deal, and that he's putting tariffs in place in order to make them do something above and beyond what was already agreed.

Yup. 8/28/24.   Not a good day.  I don't normally post personal stuff.  But yes.  He died on the way to the hospital.  Never got to talk to him before he passed.

Trump remembers Castro Jr.'s belittling him at an international conference.

Now Trudy's nuts are in a vice, and I don't think DJT is going to relent until the Tar, Feather, and Pitchfork crowd shows up in Ottawa.

No, Trump is not; he's negotiating.  And they're going quite well.

There have been ZERO tariffs.

This has all happened as a consequence of the THREAT of tariffs

Trump is an excellent reader of the room

And did not pony up a cent.

My take?  WE have witnessed the most profound 2 month political shift in history since 1861.   I am loving it.

What is truly disturbing is so many on this board tried to derail this win at the voting booth,  and even now do not support what he is doing to make this country prosper, and even going as far to combat all these excellent wins.

Oh, BTW, it is only 2 weeks, not months.

I was never a fan of Trump, but most of that was over style over substance.

The past few months have shown him to be a bad ass.  I'm sold.

His style is abrupt and often rough, but I want results, so style fades in importance.

Give me a George Patton or Norman Schwarzkopf any time to win our wars, rather than a limp-wristed bravado like Biden.
