West Fargo bought one three years ago, a Bluebird built for cold climates. The bus is garaged, and it takes 8 hours to get to a full charge, which is about 100 miles worth. Keep in mind, this is one of the most urban areas in ND. 100 miles would not cut it for more rural school districts. Four other school districts in the State of ND have bought or contracted for electric buses, usually one per district as a test, and heavily funded by various grants (from electric co-ops) and Federal subsidies. All are in urban areas of various sizes. Keep in mind that the three largest cities in the State are about 100K in population. (about half of the population is concentrated in four urban areas, Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck/Mandan, and Minot, which leaves more room for the rest of us)
About a third of the electricity in the state is generated by wind farms. North Dakota generates about twice the electricity we need in state, the rest is sold on the grid to Canada, Minnesota, Montana, and South Dakota.
