Lawsuit filed against company alleging Eaton Fire began over 'failure to de-energize' overhead wires

A California law firm filed a complaint against the Southern California Edison Company (SCE) on Monday, accusing the energy company of starting the Eaton Fire.

Gas generators are going to be hard to come by soon, they've been banned for sale starting in a 2028.

Banning diesel trucks to bring building supplies won't help either.

President Biden, Vice President Harris and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas attended a briefing about the ongoing Southern California wildfires on Monday.

During the briefing, Biden said that the wildfires were" the worst in history," and added that firefighters were able to prevent the largest fires from moving into the area.

The federal government will cover the costs for 180 days, Biden said, which is expected to cost tens of billions of dollars. He has also activated 500 Marines to help California at this time.

The president also said that officials expect strong wind gusts that could be more fuel for fire. He did not take any questions from journalists at the briefing, but when Harris was asked if her Los Angeles home was OK, she appeared to mouth “so far.”

FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell was also at the briefing and said that her agency will reimburse hotel costs for families. She noted that FEMA may deny some applications if adequate documentation is not provided.

Fox News' Sarah Tobianski contributed to this report.

Elizabeth Warren in trouble after using ActBlue to fundraise for California fires

Ross O'Keefe  |  January 13, 2025  |  2:39 pm

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is catching backlash for using ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, to facilitate donations to California charities involved in wildfire recovery.

Warren posted an ActBlue link Saturday on X in support of two California charities but soon received a Community Note saying it “is not a link to charity. It is a link to a Democrat fundraising platform.”

When clicked, the link leads to a page with “Warren for Senate” at the top with descriptions of two charities, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, below.

“Your full donation will directly support these two organizations,” the page says.

Donations are in increments of $5, $15, $28, $50, $100, $250, and $500. The $28 amount appears to be a reference to the 2028 presidential election.

The commenters also pointed out that ActBlue collects a 3.95% processing charge on every transaction.

The donation is processed via ActBlue's charity arm, ActBlue Charities. Warren does not appear to be reaping financial benefits directly from each donation, but visitors to the page can click through to her Senate campaign page, where they can donate directly to her.

ActBlue also collects the information of every person who donates, allowing the platform to later use data to provide "information, tips, and offers about ActBlue services."  .  .  .

Sale of portable gas-powered generators banned starting 2028 under new California law

Stephanie Lin  |  Oct 13, 2021  |  6:17 PM PDT

Sales of certain types of generators will no longer be permitted in 2028, according to a new law passed by state lawmakers this month.  .  .

.  .  .  The new law affects portable gas-powered generators that run under 25 horsepower. These types of generators may be used to power a fridge or other mid-sized appliances.

Thx.

I note

1. only under 25 hp generators

2. only purchased in CA.

Seems a simple solution is bigger generators or get 'em out of state.

I have a house in California. It has a 40,000 watt standby generator and is powered by propane. It has a 500 gal buried tank.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to steal it...

Biden announces $770 payments to California wildfire victims
by Alex Gangitano - 01/14/25 8:51 AM ET

President Biden announced $770 one-time payments for victims of the California wildfires as part of the efforts to provide federal support amid the raging fires.

“We’re not waiting until those fires are over to start helping the victims. We’re getting them help right now, as you all know. People impacted by these fires are going to receive a one-time payment of $770, one-time payment, so they quickly purchase things like water, baby formula and prescriptions,” Biden said in a wildfire briefing on Monday at the White House.

The president said that nearly 6,000 survivors have already registered for the program and $5.1 million has gone out.

FEMA activated its Critical Needs Assistance Program last week, which allows for the initial one-time payment of $770 to survivors to go out, according to a White House official.

The president also said on Monday that there is 14 percent containment of the wildfires in Pacific Palisades, 33 percent containment in Pasadena, and 100 percent containment in Ventura.

Biden announced last week that the federal government will cover 100 percent of the costs of California’s efforts to fight the wildfires for 180 days, which will stretch well into President-elect Trump’s administration after he is sworn in on Monday.

Belatedly ... Last evening I zoomed in more closely on GoogMaps and saw that Topanga Canyon State Park and Tuna Canyon (state) Park border Pacific Palisades. So it was indeed Goobernor Noisome's California Department of Forestry that failed to clear the brush that fueled the Pacific Palisades fire (despite efforts from LADWP, BTW).

I realize folks have been dumping on Noisome, but I very much dislike false accusations. Also near - and I incorrectly thought, adjoining - Pacific Palisades is a large national recreation area. That would make the US Department of the Interior the ones responsible for brush clearance near Pacific Palisade. That is not the case, BUT, the Eaton Fire (Altadena) and Hurst Fire (Sylmar) started in the Angeles National Forest. So Trump and Noisome both have housecleaning to do: Trump might; Noisome probably won't.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

We just got word that the democrats in Sacramento are postponing tomorrow's special session to Trump-proof California. Are they finally responding to the public's demand to stop playing politics and focus on the fires, or is this a temporary delay? Too soon to tell...

LA’s Palisades Fire likely caused by humans in hiking area popular with teens: report
By Alex Oliveira
Published Jan. 13, 2025, 2:10 p.m. ET

The Palisades Fire, the biggest and most destructive wildfire in Los Angeles history, has “human origins” as a likely cause, according to a new report.

Authorities investigating the cause of the fire told the Los Angeles Times that they believe it was started by someone — possibly as an accident, sources told the Times.

Officials noted the trail is popular with hikers and is often used as a hangout by local teens and the fire may have “human origins,” according to the Times.

The area’s an overlook known as Skull Rock on the Temescal Ridge trail in Pacific Palisades. The blaze has consumed nearly 30,000 acres (47 square miles) and destroyed 5,000 structures since it was sparked nearly a week ago.

Someone had a video of teenage boys running from the area, laughing, right around the time the fires must have started. I thought authorities were trying to identify them.
