Zelensky wants to ‘work directly’ with Trump on ending Ukraine’s war with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he wants to work “directly” with US President-elect Donald Trump and is open to his ideas, highlighting Kyiv’s eagerness to keep its most important ally onside as Russia intensifies its attacks.

“Of course we will work with Trump. I want to work with him directly,” Zelensky said in an interview with Sky News released Friday, adding that he did not want people around Trump to “destroy” their communication. “I want to share with him ideas and I want to hear from him his ideas,” he added.

The United States is the single largest provider of military assistance to Ukraine and Kyiv is keenly aware that it needs to stay on Trump’s good side to secure future support. According to the US Department of State, the government has contributed $64.1 billion to Ukraine’s war effort since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Bring the price of oil back down to $30/bbl, and this war ends in a week.

Right along with our domestic oil industry.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Well, there are tradeoffs.  Just sayin'.

While the Donbas contains 87% of the Ukrainian oil production (or did pre-war), that is only a small part of the resources there, ranging from coal, iron Uranium, and a lot of the higher tech manufacturing and steel production.
Russia invaded for resources rather than explore for and develop its own.
The possibility of controlling access to the Black Sea was a bonus, and would have given the Russians the offshore drilling rights, too, not just control of whatever grain, etc. was shipped in or out.

Spot on correct.  Putin wanted Ukraine for its natural resources, especially natural gas, so that he could establish energy hegemony over Europe.  And he also wanted unfettered control of the Black Sea, which hasn't worked out so well for him, considering that a large portion of Russia's Black Sea Fleet is now sunk, or pulled back to Novorossiysk, further to the East.

My point is that high oil prices are financing Russia's war.  Drop the price, and their army goes bankrupt.

Who is buying Russian oil? China? North Korea?

Keep the price up and export our surplus. Take their market away.
