Although I don't just love the dress, she still looks very elegant. And as already mentioned upthread a great change from boob belts and upholstery fabric.
@Right_in_Virginia Why should she cut her hair? Or do an updo? I'm sure the people she met saw her earrings. Since she is a former model, I'm not going to second guess her.

@berdie ... IMO, she should trim (cut) her hair --- it's too long and doesn't hold a style or a curl. And, it's become a mismash of colors and weaves --- and looks dry, almost brittle.
As for earrings, they are the accessory that can bring attention to your face ---.
I think Melania missed an opportunity to truly dazzle last evening. I would have advised her not to go with the "bib"; the dress didn't need it. The structure, fit, material and color played well to Melania's frame and skin tone --- Her hair in a loose upsweep would have camouflaged the problems with her hair, given her an air of sophistication matching both the dress and the occasion --- and allowed her sparkling earrings to draw attention to her attractive face ---- from every angle.
