I have a hard time being polite with people who somehow think Ukraine was/is a danger to Russia. Hello! Look at a map, at how small Ukraine is compared to Russia. Russia has no hobbles other than Ukrainian defenses, and can and has reached to Ukraine's Western border. Ukraine. OTOH, isn't going to be able to reach, e.g. Novosibirsk or Tomsk, let alone Yakutsk, Magadan, or Yelizovo (the latter on the Kamchatka Peninsula). But Western Russia, in which Russia forces are based and staged, fair game. The Kerch Strait bridge and the Rostov-on-Drone area are prime targets.

The fall was said to have been ‘accidental’.

However other claims have emerged that this version of events reported locally is malicious and inaccurate.

Shklyarov was among the world's premier ballet dancers and had starred at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Royal Opera House in London.

Russia says it shot down five of the missiles and damaged the sixth. It added that debris landed in the area of a Russian military facility, but that no casualties or damage beyond a small fire. Fox News Digital confirmed the attack with a U.S. official.

Ukraine did not immediately confirm the use of ATACMS on Tuesday, but officials did announce an attack on a military facility in Russia's Bryansk region, the same region where Moscow says the missiles fell.

The attack came just two days after President Biden approved Ukraine to use American long-range missiles on Russian soil, an escalation that Russian President Putin previously indicated would be an act of war.

MOSCOW, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Russia has arrested two suspects believed to be behind the assassination of a senior naval officer who was killed by a car bomb in Crimea last week, investigators said on Tuesday.
Valery Trankovsky, a naval captain and the chief of staff of the 41st brigade of Russia's missile ships in the Black Sea, died in a black saloon car that was blown up in the city of Sevastopol.
A source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) told Reuters at the time that it was responsible for the operation, describing Trankovsky as one of the most senior Russian officials that Kyiv has targeted in this way.

Russia's state Investigative Committee said the two suspects were a 47-year-old man, accused of making and detonating the bomb, and a 38-year-old woman who it said had carried out surveillance on the target.

In a video published by Russian military news outlet Zvezda, the pair were shown confessing to the crime. The man said he had been recruited by the SBU in the summer of 2023 and given the task of "liquidating" a high-ranking military officer.

Their faces were blurred out in the video and it was not clear if they were speaking freely or under duress.  .  .  .

UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Nov 19 – On November 19, in the Kharkiv direction, the Russian army lost 100 units of weapons and military equipment, including five tanks, reported the “Kharkiv” group of forces.

Russia started its new offensive north and northeast in the Kharkiv region in May, but Ukrainian troops have stabilized the frontline in this section since. Now, heavy battles are ongoing in and around Vovchansk (three miles from the border, 46 miles away from Kharkiv) and near Lyptsi (six miles from the border, 12 miles from Kharkiv.)

In the Kharkiv direction, Russians also lost two armored combat vehicles, five artillery systems, 18 vehicles, three units of special equipment, and 67 unmanned aerial vehicles over the last day.  .  .

Ukraine has redefined its defense capabilities to resist Russian aggression. Over 1,000 days of relentless fighting since February 2022, the nation’s weapons production has surged, driven by an expanding portfolio of advanced projects.

Ukraine is doubling down on domestic arms production to counter Russian full-scale invasion. Progress is clear: in 2024, weapons procurement funding soared to $6 billion—50% more than in 2023 and a dramatic leap from 2022.

One major shift is that Ukraine now has the capacity to produce these weapons. Local manufacturers could surpass $20 billion in production value—given enough orders. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s state defense giant, Ukroboronprom, exported just $1.2 billion in arms annually, according to SIPRI rankings.

Ukraine’s allies, particularly Denmark, have been instrumental in boosting production. In 2024, Denmark earmarked hundreds of millions of dollars for purchasing weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers.

And there’s plenty to buy. In just two years, Ukraine’s defense industry has undergone a dramatic transformation, rolling out major projects and scaling the production of artillery and mortar shells. Entirely new categories have emerged, from reconnaissance and attack drones to maritime drones and multi-mission robotic systems. UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Nov 18 – In the Kupiansk direction, there were nine Russian attacks over the day. Ukrainian army repelled Russian assaults near Kruhliakivka and Lozova, reported the General Staff.

One of the main goals of the Russian full-scale war is to capture the remainder of occupied Luhansk and Donetsk Oblast; their operations on the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line are dedicated to that. From this section of the frontline, they also aim to push into Kharkiv Oblast and re-occupy Kupiansk and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, important logistics hubs for the region. 

In the Kharkiv direction, there were six combat engagements in the area of Vovchansk.

Russia launched two missile strikes and 77 airstrikes, dropping 123 glide bombs (KABs) on positions of Ukrainian troops and cities and villages in the Kharkiv region over the past day in total. KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The Biden administration will allow Ukraine to use American-supplied antipersonnel land mines to help it slow Russia’s battlefield progress in the war, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Wednesday, as the U.S. and some other Western embassies in Kyiv stayed closed after a threat of a major Russian aerial attack on the Ukrainian capital.

Speaking to reporters during a trip to Laos, Austin said the shift in Washington’s policy on anrtipersonnel land mines for Ukraine follows changing tactics by the Russians.

Austin said Russian ground troops are leading the movement on the battlefield, rather than forces more protected in armored carriers, so Ukraine has “a need for things that can help slow down that effort on the part of the Russians.”

Russia’s bigger army is slowly pushing Ukraine’s outnumbered army backward in the eastern Donetsk region.

Antipersonnel land mines have long been criticized by charities and activists because they present a lingering threat to civilians. Austin countered that argument.
