UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Nov 15 — Russian troops force civilian people to live in the same buildings as them, using locals of the temporarily occupied Kharkiv Oblast as “shields,” said Anton Baiev, the head of the planning department of the 13th Khartia Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine on Ukrainian state TV. 

Although Ukraine’s Kharkiv counteroffensive pushed Russian troops away from most of Kharkiv Oblast in autumn 2022, in August 2023, Moscow still held about 29 settlements of the region on the left bank of the Oskil River.

In 2024, Russia began a new advance east of the Kharkiv region (Kupiansk axis, moving even closer towards the Oskil River) and north of the region (Kharkiv axis, moving towards Kharkiv in directions of Lyptsi and Vovchansk).

Baiev said that if Ukrainian troops see civilians near Russian soldiers, they are forced to stop attacking.

“When we see the enemy moving from the drone, we start firing at him or use artillery. But when we then see that a civilian — usually it’s an elderly civilian person— is near the target where [Russians] are, we understand that there won’t be any firing. Then, [we] need to wait for a civilian to leave or for an enemy to move to another location,” Baiev said.

According to him, Russians know about the Armed Forces’ principles and start living in civilian people’s homes on purpose. Sometimes, Baiev said, they move into the basements of residents’ homes and make civilians live above them.

“They protect themselves in this way because they know that, in that time [while they are in civilians’ homes], nothing will hit that house,” Baiev said.   .  .

Wow, that young Russian dude who cut off his own leg to survive when none of his own unit mates could or would help was just tough.  I actually feel really bad for the conscripts and mobiks who are being forced to fight in Ukraine by Putin...they're not at fault but just trying to survive like everybody else.  And Putin could care less about them.

Counterattacking Amid The Chaos In Kursk, Ukrainian Troops ‘Destroyed’ Russian Marines From A Brigade That’s ‘Bleeding’

Ukrainian troops reportedly surrounded and destroyed a small unit from the Russian 810th Naval Infantry Brigade on the northern edge of Ukraine’s 250-square-mile salient in western Russia’s Kursk Oblast on Friday.

It’s the latest disaster for one of the lead units in Russia’s eight-day-old counteroffensive in the oblast. Anticipating that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will lean on Ukraine to agree to an armistice that freezes the front line in place, Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin has ordered his troops to eject Ukrainian troops from Kursk before Trump’s January inauguration.

There are weeks of hard fighting ahead. But so far, the Russians have advanced just a few hundred yards while losing more than 100 vehicles and potentially thousands of troops killed and wounded.

The 2,000-person 810th Naval Infantry Brigade, backed by thousands of North Korean reinforcements, might be the hardest-hit. “The 810th brigade is bleeding right now,” one Russian blogger reported. “Every day [it] is sent on unprepared assaults” against the Ukrainian 95th Air Assault Brigade’s “persistent defense.”

The first two days of attacks on Nov. 7 and 8 cost the 810th Naval Infantry Brigade dearly—and revealed deep dysfunction in the brigade’s chain of command that has contributed to its catastrophic losses.

According to Russian blogger Romanov, the brigade’s officers told the Russian general staff the roads around the village of Pogrebki, on the front line just north of the Kursk salient, were clear of Ukrainian mines. “Logically, after receiving this information, the general staff issued an order to storm the settlement,” Romanov explained.

The roads weren’t clear of mines. The 810th Naval Infantry Brigade’s factory-fresh BTR-82 wheeled fighting vehicles exploded like firecrackers.  .  .  .

The Russian branch of the British television channel continuously evaluates the official data on Russia's fallen. In the past three months, two record figures have been recorded: both in the number of fatalities and in their age.

According to the report, "the increase in confirmed fatalities is now the highest during the entire duration of the war," reports the BBC. Specifically, it is 1.6 times the number of fallen compared to the same period last year. At the same time, there are twice as many as in 2022.

The BBC estimates that the increase is related to the intensity of the attacks. For example, the deployment of Russian forces in the Donetsk region claimed many victims. The conversation that the boy's mother alleged took place during an 18-minute encounter at the clinic would change both women's lives and land the 68-year-old doctor in prison.

The case hinged on a denunciation - part of a rising trend of Russians informing on fellow citizens for their views on the war in Ukraine and other alleged political crimes. Critics say the wave of denunciations is helping President Vladimir Putin's government crack down on dissent.

In a video recorded as she was walking away from the clinic, the mother, Anastasia Akinshina, said she had told the doctor the boy was traumatised because his father was killed fighting for Russia in the war in Ukraine.

"Do you know what she told me? 'Well, my dear, what do you expect? Your husband was a legitimate target of Ukraine,'" Akinshina said, mimicking the doctor's voice and intonation.

Fighting back tears, Akinshina said she had raised the incident with the hospital administration and suspected they planned to hush it up.

"So the question is: where can I complain about this bitch now, so that she'll be kicked out of the bleep country or sent to the devil in jail?" she said in the video, which went viral on social media and thrust her into a high-profile criminal trial as the key prosecution witness.

At the trial, Buyanova denied making the comment. But despite a lack of further adult witnesses, the denunciation was sufficient to destroy her 40-year medical career and her life.  .  .

The orcish air force will have to move the planes bombing Ukrainian civilians farther away from Ukraine? And their forward staging and emergency landing bases will be untenable? About damn time! The Kerch Strait bridge could be hit by missiles capable of doing significant damage? About damn time. Russian refineries and oil storage facilities could be hit by missiles capable of doing significant damage? About damn time. Orcish troop staging areas ... orcish logistics ... orcish repair and ammo storage facilities ...

Ukraine's problem will be target selection; the orcs' problem will be trying to protect so many potential targets.

Can't argue against any of that.  Russia targets Lviv in far western Ukraine with Iskander missiles periodically.  There is no reason they should be immune to similar long distance attacks on their own country.  They are the ones who set the rules.

The Kerch bridge needs to be taken out today.  Ukraine has had the capability to do so for months.  And it is only the Biden regime that has blocked them from doing so.
