Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted by a grand jury on charges connected to a federal probe, sources told The Post — as the defiant mayor claimed he was being persecuted by the federal government for speaking about the city’s migrant crisis.

The historic indictment — the first for a sitting New York City mayor — is expected to be unsealed Thursday by US Attorney Damian Williams, according to the sources. The news was first reported by The New York Times.

Adams will surrender to authorities early next week, sources said.

Details about the exact accusations remained unclear, but are believed to be connected to allegations of the Turkish government illegally funneling money into his mayoral campaign in exchange for approval of the Turkish consulate in Manhattan, according to sources.

Sources told The City that the mayor is facing a charge of acting as an unregistered foreign agent after accepting donations from foreign entities.  ...

If the charges against Mayor Eric Adams are related to corruption involving Türkiye did federal prosecutors wait until Erdoğan left the US?

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday as part of a federal investigation, according to several sources.

The indictment against Adams was reported to be sealed, bringing uncertainty surrounding the “charge or charges” the mayor “will face,” according to the New York Times.

“The federal investigation” against Adams has reportedly centered around “whether Adams and his campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal foreign donations,” according to the outlet.

Sources reportedly told the New York Post that Adams would allegedly “surrender to authorities early next week.”

News of the indictment of Adams comes as a wave of officials from Adams’ administration have resigned and have been investigated and raided. Adams has faced calls to “resign” from Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), New York City Councilmember Tiffany Caban, and New York City Assembly member Emily Gallagher.

“I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a post on X on Wednesday. “The flood of resignations and vacancies are threatening gov function. Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration. For the good of the city, he should resign.”

Seven high-ranking officials in New York City Mayor Eric Adams’s administration have resigned since he took office in 2022, with three in the past month.

The latest resignations are simply par for the course, according to Adams, who is at the center of an FBI corruption investigation.
 
“People come in and out of government,” Adams said at his weekly press conference. “Dr. Vasan has been here. He’s going to be here for three years. Three years! That’s some wear and tear on you. And when you look at others who have been here three years, into this administration, they come, they serve, they produce a great quality product, and then you go on. Being in government, and being inundated, constantly, it wears on you.”

Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan submitted his resignation on Monday, citing that he intends to spend more time with his family. His resignation does not have any connection to the onslaught of subpoenas being brought against top administrators, for Vasan has not been subjected to any federal inquiry.

It's odd, and a little hard to believe that the mayor's comment that illegal immigration was ruining NYC was enough for the administration to turn on him.

It's about time!! Though of course he denies everything, and he just had a news conference where he trotted out the aged pastor who advised him when young and a long ago retired NAACP leader. A "congregation" of black supporters and past leaders gathered behind him. Adams is playing the race card for sure!!! BTW- The district attorney for the southern district of NY who charged Adams is black.  What a circus in NYC!!!!  :2popcorn: ****slapping

Wow. Prosecutors say when agents attempted to seize the mayor's phone, he handed over two phones. Neither were his personal phone. Then when he finally handed it over, he told them he forgot the 6 digit passcode in an effort to "frustrate the investigation."

How about black activist (and NYC "Public Advocate") Jumaane Williams?

Mr. Williams has had prior contact with the NYPD, as has Mr. Adams before him.

Dems wouldn't dethrone another Dem unless they had a replacement in line.

Adams shouldn't resign anything until he's convicted by a jury of his peers.

Lawfare won't stop until politicians stop resigning for being accused or indicted.
