‘Your mom died, but go get a burger’: Factory where workers died in flood sent gift cards to victims’ families

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – Families whose loved ones died at a Tennessee plastic factory during flooding from Hurricane Helene say they were recently hit with a “slap in the face” from the company when they received fast food gift cards.

Flooding from the hurricane hit the Impact Plastics factory in eastern Tennessee on Sept. 27 and killed six workers.

Lawsuits filed against the company say that the deaths were preventable, claiming that employees had asked to leave work but were told no.

Impact Plastics, however, claims its managers never told their employees they could not leave.

But now, families of the workers who died say they have not heard directly from the company and that they were given fast food gift cards as a condolence.

Family members of Bertha Mendoza, who was among those killed, said the gift cards add insult to injury.

Her son Guillermo Mendoza said when Impact Plastics sent him his mom’s final paycheck, he was shocked to find what else was in the envelope.

“It had some McDonald’s gift cards,” Guillermo Mendoza said through tears.

He said there were also gift cards to Walmart and another local fast-food restaurant chain called Pal’s.

The gift cards totaled $100.

Hurricane Helene struck our area fifteen weeks ago, followed by the current winter storm Blair. We kindly request prayers for the individuals who continue to face homelessness and insufficient heating.

GoFundMe has mass spammed their entire database two days in a row looking for donations for LA fires.  Never heard a peep from them about Maui. East Palestine or the numerous states impacted by hurricanes.

80 temporary homes have been just sitting behind a guarded fence meant for Western North Carolina Hurricane Helene victims BUT FEMA ONLY GAVE 2 OUT in Avery county.

FEMA needs to be abolished and those heading FEMA need to be thoroughly investigated; follow the $$ trail.

FEMA is a pile of money waiting to be spent on a 'crisis'.  Dems will declare anything a 'crisis' or 'emergency' to unlock funds to launder to their pet causes.

FEMA's 'emergency funds' should be kep in escrow, and released by a simple majority vote in Congress, and to later be audited by the GAO and OMB.

Oh, brother.

If the U.S. government ever bounced a check it would be a national crisis. They print the money.

If I see any more BS lies I'm locking this thread. This hurricane happened months ago.

the majority will vote conservative as they had been, but there might be a number of democrat voters that switch, depending upon if they got assistance from the get go.
