There were bad floods in my area about 6 months ago. There's been no progress at all for those having to deal with FEMA.

After Ian FEMA was virtually non-existent. People waited over 6 months if not longer to be put into a FEMA or some type of travel trailer. Hundreds never got any type of assistance from them at all. People are still displaced. Those with flood insurance policies waited for long periods of time to get some sort of payout and generally not nearly the $250,000 maximum.

After hurricane IRMA and Charley, FEMA stations were set up around the county and people were lined up in their cars and FEMA was giving out vouchers for food and $$ as they registered for assistance whether they had policies or not. That didn't happen during IAN.  What happened?  Our FEMA flood policy fees have since doubled!

Roy Cooper is part of the old eastern NC democrat machine.  They don't care about western NC, and never have.  If the mountain people are going to receive help, it will have to come from other states.

OK, I have a question @libertybele . And I am not being snarky, so please don't take it that way. So, why don't citizens in the possibly effected areas have alternate housing? I know a travel trailer  can be cost prohibitive to buy and maintain, but most people can afford a tent and camping equipment. They could toss it in the car and head west to a camping site.

FEMA is now using Elon’s Starlink for emergency communications in the flood hit disaster areas.

The FCC has $42 billion to connect rural Americans to the internet.

Joe Biden cancelled Starlink from being able to participate in the funding.

Morgan Wallen donates to Hurricane Helene relief, says family is 'safe' amid devastating floods
Morgan Wallen, who grew up in Eastern Tennessee and continues to give back through the Morgan Wallen Foundation, donated $500,000
By Lori A Bashian , Larry Fink Fox News
Published September 30, 2024 8:54pm EDT

Morgan Wallen is giving back.

The country music superstar donated $500,000 to the Red Cross via the Morgan Wallen Foundation. The money will go towards helping those who have been affected by Hurricane Helene's massive destruction.

"We can’t thank Morgan Wallen enough for his heart and generous $500,000 donation to impact help on the ground now in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene, including his beloved East Tennessee," Red Cross’ National President for Humanitarian Services, Trevor Riggin, shared in a statement.

The "Last Night" singer grew up in Tennessee, having graduated from Gibbs High School in Knox County. This isn't the first time the star has given back to the community that helped raised him, as he previously donated $140,000 to the Gibbs Youth Sports program to renovate Ruritan Park earlier this year.

Hard to say.

The Mayor may be in shock.
They live there and may have lost everything, including loved ones.
Just the thought that the town is a wasteland, and lives were lost on their watch might be a bit much to deal with personally. Not everyone can set that aside and remain functional by any stretch.
Whether or not we know it, we elect people to deal with disaster as well as the more pleasant aspects of the job. People especially need to keep that in mind come November.

Speaking of FEMA:

America First Legal
@America1stLegal
Instead of effectively responding to natural disasters like Hurricane Helene, the Biden-Harris admin has been busy using BILLIONS in taxpayer dollars to transform FEMA into an illegal alien resettlement agency that prioritizes illegal “equity” over public safety.

Georgia’s Pecan Farms Take a Devastating Hit from Helene.
Quote
... In 2018, Georgia lost its title as the biggest pecan producer in the U.S. when production was cut almost in half after Hurricane Michael. “Until now, I honestly never thought I would see anything worse than Michael,” Wells says. “It’s still early, but I would say, by far, this is the worst I’ve seen, and it’s over a much wider area than we’re used to seeing, too.”

Pecans aren’t the only important crop in southern Georgia’s fertile coastal plain, which is also known for peanuts, blueberries, and peaches, but it’s one of the most vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms. Alongside cotton, the bulk of Georgia’s pecans are harvested in fall, so most of the nuts hadn’t been collected ahead of Helene. The growing nuts put a lot of strain on the tree, allowing the wind to easily snap the heavy branches. “Those nuts are on the ground, along with debris and a foot of rain,” Stuckey says. “They’re rotting…this year’s crop is gone.” ...

Mayorkas on Lack of Water in Asheville Area: Some Areas ‘Better Equipped and Better Managed’ Due to Experience

On Monday’s broadcast of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas responded to delays in getting water into the Asheville, NC area by stating that the impacts of Hurricane Helene were underestimated and “We are still in search-and-rescue mode in certain communities. There are local communities that are better equipped and better managed because of experience.”

Co-host Ailsa Chang asked, “Well, was access an issue when it came to supplying water there? Because Buncombe County, where Asheville is, says they put in a request for water before the storm, but they hadn’t received anything until this morning.”

She then played audio of County Manager Avril Pinder saying, “We’ve been asking for water and we’re just getting water and it’s still in low quantities. There’s a large need in our community, and we would like to see a better response from our state partners.”

Chang then asked, “Now, I understand that you represent the federal government. But what I want to know is, the forecasts were quite accurate for Helene for quite some time. So, why did it take this long to get water out there?”

Mayorkas responded, “Well, Ailsa, if I may, the estimates of what Helene was going to bring and the reach it was going to have were actually underestimates. I don’t — this has been unprecedented, and it has exceeded the estimates in terms of the communities reached. I do know that FEMA has shipped more than 1 million liters of water to devastated communities. … So, we are very well-versed in dealing with emergency response. We are still in search-and-rescue mode in certain communities. There are local communities that are better equipped and better managed because of experience.”

What do we know about the mayor of Asheville? That tweet alleges incompetence.

She's bad.  The city is run by hippies, and that will complicate the recovery effort.
