Final result from the Texas Secretary of State website:

Ted Cruz (Rep.) 5,973,370 votes, 53.12%

Colin Allred (Dem.) 5,002,513 votes, 44.49%

Ol' Ted won by nearly 9%, better than I predicted.

I was one of Ted's earlierst supporters......  Waaaaaaay back before he was a Senator.

With that, there is an element around Crying Wolf, and this is a good example.

My hope?  Ted Cruz replaces Clarence Thomas in SCOTUS within Trump's term.  We need to make sure Thomas doesn't become the next RBG.

I love Clarence Thomas. He’s the best judge in my lifetime.  But, like you, I want him to retire rather than expire.
Cruz would be superb as a Supreme.

@catfish1957

888high58888 I'm right there with you. He's got a lot of good years left, and I've heard some rumblings about Thomas being ready to fade off into the sunset in his senior years.

Can you imagine the Dems questioning Cruz during confirmation hearings? I can see them foaming at the mouth trying to discredit him from the time he was an embryo. Vicious, wicked Dems.

Actually, I’d relish them questioning Cruz. I think that would be great fun for him.  happy77

I'm pretty darned sure that both Thomas and Alito will be gone within the first year and Trump's first replacement appointment should be John Eastman. Liberal heads will explode (especially the ones in California).

Acutally there are so many other senators who hate Cruz (GOP and  dim), that they will gleefully give him a ticket to SCOTUS.

Being that principled of a Conservative does that.

Absolutely agree about Justice Thomas.  He's served this country more than admirably, but it's too much of a risk to take that he might die in office and put his seat at risk of being filled by a liberal.  He should retire so that President Trump can name his successor at a time when confirmation by the Senate should be a no-brainer.

Now that Cruz has defeated his opponent by almost 1 million votes, can we all agree that the Democrats are a bunch of liars?

Do you know what an "expert" is?

It's a guy who knows 164 interesting and exciting ways to make love.

But he doesn't know any women.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

And yet, so many posters here were instantly hand-wringing about Texas "turning blue".

Literally they say this every 6 years for Cruz. I remember hearing this back in 2018, which was a strong year for Dems, he still made it through it.

CF:

I have wanted that for a long time, but Cruz said back in Trump's first term that he didn't want to be on the court. IIRC Cruz was a clerk for Chief  Justice Rehnquist

Quote:
Ted Cruz, after great success as a Harvard Law School student, became a law clerk to two federal judges.  During 1995-1996, Cruz was a clerk to Judge J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  During 1996-1997, Cruz clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court for the Chief Justice, William H. Rehnquist.

And it is my understanding that Cruz was a big fan of Scalia. I think that Cruz would be a great pick but it is my understanding he doesn't want it.

Mmmmm... you don't think he should serve as a "lesser" judge first?

I want someone in their early 30s who can recite the Constitution from memory.  Don't even care if the person went to law school, much less served as a judge.

People like Derschowitz have called him the best constitutional minds of his lifetime..  He's one of the rarities that would make a great exception.  He would start...  fully ready.

Cruz would be a great addition to SCOTUS at some point but right now we need him to stay right where he is. John Eastman should be Trump's first appointment to that body as payback for the Lawfare bastards. @Hoodat
