High-ranking government sources are now telling me that today’s deadly shooting of Judge Kevin Mullins by Sheriff Stines may have had a disturbing and deeply personal motive.

According to sources, Sheriff Stines walked into the chambers of Judge Kevin Mullins this afternoon and fatally shot him after an exchange of heated words. Local media has reported that Sheriff Stines, the elected sheriff of Letcher County, is currently in custody and facing first-degree murder charges.

But here’s where the story takes a horrifying turn: multiple members of the community and those close to the sheriff allege that the judge was involved in the rape of Sheriff Stines’ underage daughter. If these allegations are true—and the weight of local beliefs suggests they might be—then the shooting may have been an act of a father seeking justice for the unspeakable crime committed against his daughter.

NEW: The Kentucky sheriff who shot a local judge in his chambers, had exchanged cell phones just moments before taking the judge's life.

According to the Mountain Eagle, District Judge Kevin Mullins and Sheriff Mickey Stines exchanged phones.

When Stines was apparently unhappy with what he found, he opened fire on the judge.

Stines was previously Mullins' bailiff before he became sheriff in 2018.

The two had lunch together just hours before the incident.

Sheriff Stines later went to the courthouse to speak with Mullins. They then went to the judge's office, where they continued their conversation.

A short conversation took place before the sheriff got up and locked the door. Both men then took out their cell phones and handed them to each other.

Stines then got up and pulled out his gun, walked around the desk and repeatedly shot Mullins who passed.

It's unclear what the argument was about but an unconfirmed report claims the sheriff found out the judge had r*ped his daughter.

In that situation I'd go with the old Klingon proverb that revenge is a dish best served cold. As Sherriff he had the leverage to put this guy in prison or at least try before he did the suicide by cop thing.

I can appreciate the impulse. But you're right that what a rapist deserves is a lengthy appointment with a Sawzall and a blowtorch.

Arraignment tomorrow. Still no official comment or determination on motive:

The shocking moment a Kentucky judge was allegedly murdered by his sheriff pal was revealed in court as testimony offered some insight into the the brutal slaying.

Surveillance footage of a man identified as Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Stines allegedly shooting District Judge Mullins several times in his chambers elicited emotional reactions from the courtroom as prosecutors played the video during a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, the Courier Journal reported.

The sheriff reportedly came out of the courtroom with his hands up after the shooting, asking police to “treat me fair” upon being taken into custody, a Kentucky detective testified, adding that Stines allegedly told police, “They’re trying to kidnap my wife and kid.” ...

Detective Clayton Stamper testified that one witness who attended the lunch said they saw Mullins ask Stines if they needed to meet privately, though the context wasn’t provided, the outlet reported.

He added that surveillance footage from inside the chambers — not shown in court — captured the sheriff using his and Mullins’ phones to make multiple calls to his daughter just before approaching the judge and shooting him dead.  ...

I listened to some of this story on a Kentucky news station and they're making it sound like the judge was involved in some sort of sex slavery or sex trafficking conspiracy.
