Biden and Trump have 'very nice call'

President Biden and former President Donald Trump had a "very nice call" Monday afternoon, Trump said one day after surviving an assassination attempt in Florida.

"We had a very nice call. It was about Secret Service protection," Trump told CNN — after Biden told reporters earlier in the day he had tried to reach the GOP presidential nominee without success.

The White House said in a statement released around 6 p.m. that Biden "just spoke with former President Trump, and conveyed his relief that he is safe."

"The two shared a cordial conversation and former President Trump expressed his thanks for the call," the White House said.

Trump on Monday morning directly blamed Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for allegedly inspiring the suspect, Ryan Routh, with their fiery rhetoric about democracy being at stake in the Nov. 5 election.

Biden also spoke on the phone with Trump on the night of July 13 after he was grazed by a bullet at a Pennsylvania rally.

As a police officer, I’d never enforce this. It doesn’t bother me that people have guns (legally obtained). I can only think of one incident where a legal gun owner (having a mental breakdown) was a problem.

The military couldn’t be used for this anyway.

First the Military, as others have pointed out, won’t operate on US soil to enforce domestic law. Disarming the citizens is against the constitution so that’s a problem as well. All service members swear to uphold the constitution and have provisions for refusing unlawful commands.

Law enforcement is in a similar realm. We swore to uphold the constitution and disarming lawful citizens is against the constitution. We also have provisions for refusing unlawful commands.

Sure there are a few agencies who for whatever political reasons that would “try” but they will be completely ineffective.

Is it known that Routh knew Trump was going to play golf that day? Consider this alternative:

1. Routh knew from news and the Trump-Hating commentariat that Trump usually played golf whenever he was at MaL;

2. Routh knew from the news that Trump would be at MaL that weekend;

3. Routh knew from Google Maps and Satellite View where he could lie in wait, plus or minus driving by to scout it out from ground level;

4. Routh decided to lie in wait during daylight hours for as many days as it would take to get a shooting opportunity (was Routh there the previous day?);

5. Routh almost got his opportunity, after lying in wait some 12 hours.

Re my point 3 above, the Secret Service has known about the security risk of that publicly accessible fence line and bushes for years, probably since 2016. Whether laziness or complacency, the Secret Service didn't patrol the the fence line before Trump went out, nor did they check it with a thermal camera.
