Routh is from North Carolina:

    A background check on the name given by officials, Ryan Wesley Routh, revealed that he currently lives in Hawaii and has faced dozens of run-ins with police, stretching back to at least the 1990s.

    Routh is a native of North Carolina, where his list of arrests includes simple drug possession, driving without a license, expired inspection and operating a vehicle with no insurance. In addition, the Greensboro News & Record reported in 2002 that Routh was arrested after barricading himself in his roofing company’s office during a three-hour standoff that followed a traffic stop in which he put his hand on a gun before fleeing.

Routh has lived in Hawaii since 2017 where he developed another construction company to build homes for the homeless.

Routh claimed he fought in Ukraine. He also tried to recruit soldiers to fight in Ukraine against Russia.

“I mean, I didn’t think he would go that far. I knew he was a little cuckoo, but assassinating the president? I mean, he’s going to be going away for a long time,” the neighbor told Fox 8.

The woman -- who lived next to Routh for nearly two decades -- claims her former neighbor "had a lot of guns" and that "a lot of people were afraid of him back in the day.”

However, she never imagined he’d try to assassinate a former president.

“Him, I mean, trying to shoot Trump. That’s a lot. I would have never guessed, and I would have swore up and down, no, that’s not him,” she said. “… I just can’t believe it. I mean, if I didn’t see it with my own eyes, I mean the pictures and stuff and all, then I wouldn’t be able to believe that.”

Very strange how so much of this second attempt on President Trump's life involves sleazy Ukraine-linked characters.

The Secret Service has confirmed that a second assassination attempt happened against President Trump, the second in two months, and quite a failure for the elite protection force. Questions abound as to how the accused killer, Ryan Wesley Routh, got into the Trump golf course in West Palm Beach, how he knew his schedule, and how he managed to get away after the Secret Service shot at him and he ran. Reportedly, he was only caught because an alert bystander saw him get into his black Nissan and got a photograph of the license plate, handing it off to the local cops so they could catch him.

More uncomfortably for the Ukraine crowd, the would-be assassin seemed to be a pro-Ukraine activist of unstable mental bent. Some of his tweets ranted about killing Vladimir Putin earlier. He claimed he was trying to recruit Afghan war veterans from Afghanistan and bring them into the Ukraine combat zone. He apparently got thrown out of Ukraine itself for being annoying. He had been in Ukraine, and he had visited people in Congress, and apparently, he had money to pay these soldiers. So, questions abound on his side, too.

But in spite of this uncomfortable association between a would-be presidential assassin and war-torn Ukraine, the nation's loudest Ukraine supporters in the Washington swamp were rather shockingly cavalier and even happy about the bona fide assassination attempt.

The point is that this guy is just another lone nutcase.  And while I do think that DHS had sabotaged Trump's security in Butler, hoping that somebody would take him out, via a passive-aggressive strategy, the fact is that the USSS ID'd and grabbed this guy at the golf course before he was able to get a shot off.  That sounds like a success to me.  If there as a conspiracy, then 1) wouldn't they send better hitmen, and 2) why nab the potential shooter before he had a shot?
