Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp snaps back at Trump after repeated attacks: 'Leave my family out of it'
'My focus is on winning this November and saving our country from Kamala Harris and the Democrats,' Kemp said
By Landon Mion Fox News
Published August 4, 2024 6:20am EDT

Former President Donald Trump at a rally in Atlanta on Saturday again attacked Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and the state's Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both of whom are Republicans, for their refusal to overturn the former president's 2020 election loss to Joe Biden in the Peach State.

The governor responded by suggesting Trump should focus on winning in November and refrain from "petty personal insults, attacking fellow Republicans, or dwelling on the past."

Before the rally, Trump criticized Kemp, a popular Republican governor in a must-win swing state for the Republican White House hopeful, and suggested the governor should be "fighting Crime, not fighting Unity and the Republican Party."

Trump also criticized Kemp's wife, Marty, for saying she would write in her husband's name for president in November instead of voting for the former president.

"Brad Raffensperger has to do his job, and make sure this Election is not stolen," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social. "Brian Kemp should focus his efforts on fighting Crime, not fighting Unity and the Republican Party! His Crime Rate in Georgia is terrible, his Crime Rate in Atlanta is the worst, and his Economy is average."

Went to bed with a stomach bug. Woke up late to a bazillion messages about Trump last night.  My view is pretty straight forward as I said before crashing last night.

In 2020, Trump lost the state by less than 12,000 votes and 30,000+ refused to vote for President.

In 2021, Trump convinced 427,205 Republicans not to turnout for a runoff.

In 2022, the Kemp ground game got Trump’s Senate pick through a general election into a runoff, but couldn’t carry a bad candidate across the runoff finish line.  And the GOP won every other statewide race and generated more votes statewide than the Democrats for legislative races.

The anomaly is Trump and his handpicked candidates.  They underperform Kemp.  So attacking a guy who has endorsed you whose ground game you need to win in 2024 is not wise.  Luckily for Trump, Kemp is not a petty man.  Unfortunately for Trump, he’s reminding those 40,000+ voters who wouldn’t vote for him in 2020 in Georgia why they didn’t vote for him.

A candidate who is known and disliked will lose to an unknown and undefined candidate through whom voters can pour their own dreams.  The Harris campaign is outspending Trump in Georgia positively defining herself.

The state leans Republican right now and leans Trump, but there are ninety days for Trump to further screw it up.

Also, if you think the race was stolen in 2020, well it was genius for you to renominate the guy who, as the President in charge of the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security and the FBI, couldn’t keep it from being stolen then and now has Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in charge of Washington and Kemp and Raffensperger still in charge in Georgia.

Not a lot of unity within the GOP and unfortunately that's one of the reasons that the DEMS win and will continue to be in power.

That may be the case on the presidential level in the GOP

But in down ticket races Republicans could possibly have better luck. Democrats have more seats to defend this year in the Senate than  the Republicans. That puts the odds in Republicans favor for Senate races

We could see a very divided government in the next four years  which would be a good thing

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I don’t think the attacks on Brian Kemp hurt him, but they were unnecessary and lame and I was kind of happy when Trump controlled himself to be strategic, but let’s face facts. Trump’s going to do what Trump’s going to do, and everybody voting for Trump has priced in his annoying habits. I doubt anyone is going to vote for open borders, a packed Supreme Court plus gun confiscation because Trump is still pissed off at Brian Kemp and refuses to shut up about it.

It's going to take everyone -- EVERYONE -- to win in November. We are on the verge of a full-blown, Obama-led, Marxist takeover of our nation. Trump/Vance MUST win. Establishment GOP, RINOs, Conservatives, Evangelicals, America First, Never Trumpers. Put aside hurt feelings and grudges. ALL REPUBLICANS MUST UNITE FOR THE FALL.

As another poster pointed out; several governor (including DeSantis) will be term limited in '26.  IF the GOP can't hold that red line, we are sunk.

It won’t be very many, but it will be more than zero, which is the number of votes Trump can afford to lose in Georgia.

Why don’t you see Kamala Harris going after Democrat governors or attacking left-leaning progressive groups? She wants to win. Trump wants to hold grudges

I sure wish these rah rah types would confront Trump directly instead of telling the rest of us to tolerate his self destructive behavior.  Alas, most of them are too afraid of being shunned by the likes of catturd2, Laura Loomer, etc.

Agreed. But it would be extremely helpful if Trump would stop being Donnie Douchebag and decide instead to focus on policy and persuasion.

IMHO unless they are planning to do a switch-a-roo at the DEM convention, the fix is already in. She'll be the first female president and she knows it.

I did not think it was a mistake for Trump to start an argument over whether Kamal is black enough. But what purpose is served by starting a fight over whether Kemp is
Republican enough?  I get that Trump want complete fealty from every Republican politician in the country, but airing this dirty laundry in public is going to cost him the election if he is not careful.

@Hoodat

I may have asked you this question before, but what is your opinion of Brian Kemp as governor?

@LMAO

Kemp gets very high praises for his handling of the BLM and Antifa riots.  He shut them all down from the start while the rest of the country burned.  Even in Atlanta.  He overrode the city's authority and send in State police to stop the uprising.

Economically, Atlanta growth brings in jobs.  So he ends up getting the credit for that.  He has done a lot to get other companies to move here.  However, there is one company in particular where he sold the people out.  Rivian.  All the Covid lockdowns in Georgia were because of Rivian.  That company alone drove State policy.  They told Kemp that if he didn't lockdown the State, they were pulling out.

Politically, he is entrenched in the new and improved good old boy network.  If you dangle money in front of him, he will jump.  When Facebook came into the State in 2020 offering all this money to help out with the election, he took it.  And once he did, he couldn't go back on it.

After 2020, he saw the results of what was done and decided to use it to his advantage in 2022.  So basically, he and the GOP Elite cut a deal with the Democrats.  They threw Stacy Abrams under the bus in exchange for a US Senate seat.  Warnock wins his race, and the Gov, Lt. Gov, AG, and Sec of State all win theirs.  The election was fixed.  Didn't take five days of ballot counting this time because they had already agreed with the Democrats beforehand.  Abrams even stopped campaigning weeks before election day.

Kemp, Raffensperger, Sterling, etc. are all corrupt.  So the question is, do you get them to work for you or not.  Clearly, Trump doesn't have the first clue at doing that, so after yesterday, I fully expect them to turn a blind eye to the shenanigans of Fulton, Dekalb, Gwinnett, and Cobb counties.  Except this time, they'll be ready weeks before the ballots are due.

The key for Trump is to simply force the State of Georgia to enforce their own election laws.  If they do that, Trump wins easily.  But Trump thinks that rally sizes are what wins elections, and an opportune place to trade insults.

Back to Kemp.  You have to keep in mind how firmly entrenched the Democrat Party has been in Georgia.  The State went 134 years without a Republican governor - 134 years!  Getting Sonny Perdue in the governor's mansion in 2003 was a blessing.  But you have to keep in mind almost every Republican in State office in 2003 was at one time a Democrat, including Perdue.  But he was a solid governor, full of integrity and humility, which separates him from the vast majority of the Republican GOP.  The Party is corrupt to its very core.  Kemp is simply a product of that.  And anyone in the GOP who is willing to stand for truth and justice will find themselves stripped of power or a job altogether.  In the GA Senate, Brandon Beach and his allies saw themselves stripped of all their committee rankings.  And on the Fulton County election board, Susan Voyles lost her job altogether.  The GOP does this because that's what the Democrats did when they were in power.  Go against Dem Speaker Tom Murphy three decades ago?  Kiss your political career good-bye.   Well the same went for GOP Speaker David Ralston.  He ran the GA House the exact same way as did Tom Murphy.  And the same way that Republican Casey Cagle ran the GA Senate.  All corrupt to the core.  Georgia is about as corrupt as it gets.

Don't expect any help from the Georgia GOP this election.  Especially now that Trump has run his mouth instead of reaching out the good-old-boy way.  Facebook and Dominion and Act Blue will pour tens of millions into good-old-boy pockets.  Because they know how the game is won.  They could care less about how big Trump's rallies are.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Not a lot of unity within the GOP and unfortunately that's one of the reasons that the DEMS win and will continue to be in power.

One thing the dems are successful at is pulling together their disparate factions toward a common goal of winning elections.  Republicans are more interested is losing noisily.

Trump announced that he had a 270 - 0 record, if I heard him correctly, of endorsing folks for public office.  But he backed Hershel Walker for governor of Georgia when the man lived in the state of Texas.  A disastrous choice in my humble opinion.  WALKER LOST OF COURSE.  And in fact Trump has backed quite a few folks that LOST!!!  Just one more lie from Trump!!!

Many in Georgia blame Trump for losing both senate seats to the Democommies because of his obtuse big mouth and poor choice of endorsements!

I think Trump has done as much to split the Republican Party as anyone.  I have long wearied of his empty rhetoric.  I intend to vote for the clod again, but it will be a true lame duck presidency, with BOTH PARTIES NOT COOPERATING WITH HIM, AND A PERIOD OF EOs ONLY, if he manages to get elected, which I also believe will not happen.
