The report said the camera takes 30 pictures per second or 1 picture every 33.33 ms. If the bullet is going about 3,000' a second, the bullet travels about 100' between each picture. He had to be VERY lucky to capture the image of the bullet even with his fancy camera.

It is possible that image isn't the bullet but instead the remnants of Trumps ear. That would persist much longer and dissipate into the air.

Either way, my point is that it's just a tad thought provoking that he was there using a camera set up to take thirty frames a second at a shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second in order to take pictures of a man standing at a podium making a speech.

The guy who covers Presidents covering a President is not a conspiracy, it's his job. And he's pretty good at it to get a picture like that during a gun battle.

Here's what I do know. Doug Mills, the photographer who took the iconic photo of G. W. Bush being informed of the 9/11 attack, just happened to show up at a run of the mill Trump rally with a VERY expensive camera all set up to take a picture of a bullet in flight. Pure coincidence?  You decide.

I figure a projectile speed of around 2500 ft per sec.  A shutter speed of 1/8000 would have shown the bullet traveling 3-4 inches.  The photo of the bullet blur showed more distance than that.  So it is unlikely he was using the shortest shutter speed setting.

But I must take issue with the premise that the shooter was on that particular roof.  If you examine closely, you will see that the roof in question has a slope to it, which apparently is an extremely rare occurrence with roofs.  Thus, it would be impossible for someone with a rifle to lie prone on it.

Now, I am hearing 4 overwatch nests. 2 SS, and 2 SWAT or other agency.
It was not the northern nest that took the shot (the guys in ballcaps with 'Police' markings) - Their view was obstructed by the westernmost tree. It was the southern team, behind them (the guys in the Jungle hats with unidentified markings), firing past the northern team, that took the shot.

Response was one shot (the last one heard, which I find remarkable) from a 300 winmag.
I would think a 300 win would burp a little louder than a .223 130 yards away....
Maybe they were suppressed and not firing winmag

Video camera tech today allows you to view it frame by frame.  There's no luck involved once you frame what you want in the viewfinder. 

Once you see a frame that captures what you're looking for...WALLAH!! You have your iconic picture.

Of course! My youngest son owns such a camera. But the question remains, why would a world famous photographer choose to set up his camera with a shutter speed of 1/2000 of a second to video a man standing at a podium giving a speech unless he knew something? @DCPatriot

Virtually all the latest cameras today which any serious photographer might consider buying have those shutter speed capabilities.

My NIKON d7000 isn't latest tech by any stretch, but has a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 of a second.

A fast shutter speed produces a high resolution crisp photo while the subject is moving. To be used on something like a magazine cover they have to have exceptional resolution/clarity without any blur due to movement. Be it head, lips or even eyes moving and blinking.

Shooting video at 30 frames per second is common. Choosing a shutter speed capable of capturing bullets in flight when you are there to film a man making a speech is not. Unless you've been tipped off that something might happen to require it.

You can get huge SD cards these days, as much as 1 TB. Much bigger than a blue ray movie disc will hold, which is about 50 GB.

The higher the resolution the photo, the faster it needs to be captured so that movement doesn't smear reducing the resolution. Modern cameras are fast. An iPhone has the capability of doing 1/2000 shutter speed with its tiny camera. A larger aperture higher resolution high end camera would be expected to go faster.

Yes and no.  Mine don't use FB or Insta or such, but they absolutely DO have a presence on TikTok and YouTube.
