I've heard several power booms and power don't stay on very long. But it comes back on!!!

Main power lines that feeds the subdivision runs above my backyard fence.

Light rain, 22mph wind here at present.

We are fine, just one of the 2 million in the Houston area with no power. It. took me a while to get my generator running. That's what I get for not running it in years. It's a good deal that I converted it to run on Nat gas. I lost 3 big limbs on 1 pecan tree.

At least 2 dead as Beryl pummels Texas with tornadoes, 90 mph gusts, leaving over 2.7 million without power

MATAGORDA, Texas – Hurricane Beryl crashed ashore along the central Texas coast early Monday morning, pummeling the area with 90 mph wind gusts that brought life-threatening storm surge, widespread damage, and knocking out power to well over 2.7 million people while leaving at least two dead. Now, as it moves inland, the cyclone is spawning tornadoes across Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm late Monday morning, but it was still wreaking havoc along its journey further into Texas. The storm center passed just outside the Houston metro area, pummeling the nation's fourth-largest metro area with hours of wind gusts over 70-80 mph and dumping over 10 inches of rain, leading to flash flooding.

A Tornado Watch has been posted for parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma as the threat of tornadoes continues as Beryl moves inland. Multiple tornadoes have already been reported in East Texas and Louisiana, and forecasters expect more as the night continues................

Up north.  Snow/humidity avoidance birds.

Neighbor says the  power's out, biggest wind gust was no more than 40-45 mph.

Our power went out at 4 am this morning in Alvin.  Thankfully it came back about 3:15 pm.  Limbs were all over the place from my pecan trees.  My helpers spent most of the day sawing and taking them to the roadside.  I'm not holding out any hope for our fishing camp at Chinquapin just NE of Matagorda.  Ours is right on the Intracoastal Waterway, the closest to the Gulf.

Well, it wasn't a nothingburger as I had hoped. And there was loss of life due to trees falling on homes. **nononono* Lots of downed fences and roofs damaged. The standard stuff. My friend called and said her brother's community was torn up. But no loss of life, so there's that. I hope that's the last one for us for the next 10 years. I've had enough of these storms after 77 years.  9999hair out0000

Glad everyone's okay.

P.S. So happy to have my power back!

My daughter just got her power back about 3 hrs ago, but we're still waiting. Her neighborhood only began around 5 yrs ago and ours started over 60 yrs ago.  I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

It could. But it could be how populated the neighborhoods are. Usually older neighborhoods are more spacious (fewer people) and newer neighborhoods are crowded (more people).

Living in a rural area I know we will be the very last ones to get power restored. There just aren't enough of us to raise enough cain to get on their nerves, lol. Plus it makes the "number of people without power" drop quickly.

That's right. Here I have it pretty good... On up the way is a lake and a hilltop where all the Hoity-Toity folks like doctors and lawyers have their spreads... For them to have power, I get power. And it's dang funny too, because right across the road from me, where we used to lease the land and run cattle, there's  hundreds of chunked-and-formed McMansions sitting there... I get power back long hours before all them folks...

So I have a creek out back that I can drink... And am on the high-priority power and cable.
A small benefit of how-it-works  happy77 The creek was proper thinking. But I didn't see the priorty power thing coming. It's a perk.

Dan Patrick
@DanPatrick
I am disappointed that President Biden is turning Hurricane Beryl into a political issue. We had a cordial call today that ended up with him granting my request for a major disaster declaration. But that’s not good enough for him. He is falsely accusing me that I was not reachable.

He obviously did not know his own employees from FEMA were side-by-side with me for 3 days! All he had to do was call them and have them hand their phone to me. I even took a photo with them!

Before we made an official ask, we needed to determine what our outstanding needs were. We were working on that with local officials as we traveled the impacted areas. As I was being briefed today, the president called.

To quote President Biden, this is a load of malarkey, and he’s shoveling it!

President Biden, Texas leaders share different stories on Hurricane Beryl aid request
Story by FOX 4 Staff via MSN
July 10, 2024

On Tuesday, just one day after Hurricane Beryl made landfall along the central Texas coast, accusations are flying between President Biden and Texas leadership regarding the state's response to the storm.

At least 9 people were killed and more than 1.5 million people are still without power in the area.  ...

In a post on X, Biden said, "Following Beryl, I know Texans are concerned about power outages and extreme heat. That's why we've moved generators into the community to help reduce impacts of power outages and are staging water, meals, and tarps to keep families healthy."

The president said Texas will receive federal aid later than needed, because state leaders were slow to ask for the disaster declaration.

The White House told the Houston Chronicle that multiple attempts were made to reach Governor Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.

President Biden says he did not speak with Patrick until Tuesday, more than a day after Beryl made landfall.   ...

I just got back home from getting one of my propane bottles, I had loaned to my daughter for their generator. They got power back yesterday. I got to my house to see 3 Alabama Electric trucks parked on my curb and my neighbors across the street from me had power. They left and I checked my email. Centerpoint had sent me an email telling me to expect electricity by the end of tomorrow. The power lines that crosses the street and runs above my back fence, has it's switches all open.

Just checking in.
We lost power at 5:15 am Monday morning.
Restored today at 9 am, 76 hours.
No major damage.
Lost a lot of limbs, but not the tree.
Back fence is toast.
(Sugar Land)

Been driving to work to Katy since Tuesday morning.
I think that was the worst part for me, with all the traffic lights out, and people driving crazy.
The best part is no structural damage and no injuries.

As an indiviufal who has been through his share of hurricanes in 50 years.....  it just irks me that there has not been significant investment to put in electrical infrastructure that can withstand at least Cat 4 winds (risk/reward).

Considering the pain/suffering, and economic value of quicker recovery?  Stinkin' utilites prefer to perptetuate the problem.
