Ladies: Here Are 9 Easy Ways To Comfort Your Man When His Favorite Sports Team Loses

SPORTS  ·  Jun 22, 2024

Nothing can send an otherwise well-adjusted man into a sudden tailspin of depression quite like his favorite sports team losing. Ladies, here are nine ways you can comfort your man when such a tragedy unfolds:

  • Remind him that it's just a game: This will help put things back in perspective.

  • Ask him again which team lost and by how much: He needs to process this.

  • Stand in front of the screen for the last 5 minutes of the game and ask if he wants to talk about his feelings: Obviously, he has some things he needs to express.

  • Be super, extra cheerful to help offset his sadness: This will right the ship in no time.

  • Tell him you're very sorry about his team not getting the golden snitch or whatever, now pass the wine: Empathy is so important.

  • Remind him that his team's all-star third baseman with a career WAR over 50 who's been on the IL since April did great in his AAA rehab start and is close to activation: You won't believe how his eyes will light up.

  • Ask if now is a good time to talk about getting off birth control: This will be a welcome distraction.

  • Tell him it's too bad about the large men in another city not hitting the ball with the stick better: Let him know you really care.

  • Ask him why he doesn't just root for a better team: Help him see the error of his foolish, foolish ways.

Follow these nine easy steps, and your man will beat the post-loss doldrums in no time!

Many years ago when I was married to the world's greatest Rams fan, I found him intolerable to be around if the Rams didn't play well. One Sunday I left the apartment and drove around L.A. to keep from having to listen to him. During my excursion, I spotted some apartments in Burbank that looked interesting, so I stopped and looked at a couple of floor plans. I went home and told hubby that I'd found a new place for us and that we were moving. He didn't give me any grief. The apartments were up on a mountain/hill and had a MAGNIFICENT view of the SF Valley. It was away from the congestion of L.A. And besides, I'd already made up my mind that we were moving. See what being an over-the-top fan cost him that day?! LOL :silly:

There's a lot to be said about performance stats when you are on a great hitting team.

Case in point, watching today's Jay's - Astros game,  as big a George Springer fan that I was, I've noticed he's devolved into a <1 WAR $24M a year player in Toronto. Ouch!!!!

If the M's lose tonight, we are one back.

#1.  Sorry we could not accommodate tonight.

#2.  And it seems, you guyz sweeping my Orioles has given birth to some confidence in your clubhouse.

#3.  I'm hoping that the O's can keep winning 6 or 7 out of every ten games for the entire 2nd half.  IMO, they're using sleight-of-hand right now.  Freaking Kimbrel is going to send me to Urgent Care and our bullpen is bleeping, bleeped!

Well, the Orioles let us down, so we'll just have to keep climbing up to the top until we can overtake them. But I'll tell you what I'm enjoying -- watching the Rangers slip further down the list as the days and weeks go by. I keep their score pinned to my phone and monitor the ups and downs of the game. Last year, it didn't seem to matter how far behind they got, they were almost always able to close the gap and pull ahead. Not so much this year. Does an Astros fan's heart good.

I'm proud of our guys. They have found something to work with, and I don't know what or why but I'm delighted. They're looking like the Houston Astros now. I pray it continues.

I think our 'stros this year, got the good fortune to be in the weakest divison this year.  Right now with 7th best record, they'll get to see how to deal with the playoffs without a bye.  Granted, after that start, I didn't think they'd have enough spot good pitching performances to pull it off?  And DCP's lament of bullpen?  Should have watched us April/May....   Pathetic.

After 105 games played for most teams, there is only 1 team still playing .600 baseball in the MLB...Philadelphia Phillies!

Pointing this out because a little more than 1 week ago, there were 5:  Orioles/Yankees/Cleveland/Phillies/Dodgers

Anyone else noticing the attendance in Oakland.  They've had like a dozen games where the crowd was 3-5K.

On know most of it, is the local fans giving the team the finger for moving to Vegas.  Still.....  just 3,000?

Yeah well, big deal! They didn't come through for us (Astros) when we needed them to.* They have been twice defeated by the Mariners. And now they're under 600. So don't come in here bragging about your Phillies when they are getting defeated by a team vying for top position in the AL-West, easily the least impressive division in MLB this year. Go away.  ****slapping

*Not making excuses for the 'Stros. They need to get the job done in their own games. But every team knows their standing is a combination of their wins and the other divisional teams' losses. I had this series (Mariners vs. Phillies) chalked up in my brain as 3 losses for Mariners.

On the plus side, watching those games has been more pleasant this year what with the silencing of the banging drums.

ROFL!  @AllThatJazzZ

I'm not a Phillies Phan!  Eff the Phillies!!

My Orioles have been playing .500 ball since the break.

And don't get me started on their infield "defense"... Keee-ryst!  If I was the manager, I'd throw every damned X-BOX out the hotel windows and tell them to take an extra 125 grounders and pop-ups every day!

This is supposed to the The Show....the major leagues and they give us a steady diet of Little League bullshit.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Agree the television experience surpasses the "live" experience.

Less expensive...less hassles...super-slo-mo replays and central air-conditioning.

Me at age 67?  Yep.  I'm adverse to the madness and hassles of modern baseball

At age 25?  No way.   The electicity and excitment at the park can not be reproduced at home.  I think I saw every Nolan Ryan home start in 1985.  Just seeing the likes of Ryan and Mike Schmidt battling it out....

yeah, but why would you watch them at home, at the ballpark, or anywhere when they're obviously an awful team? I checked the team stats. There isn't one regular is who batting at least .250.

Who says there aren't smoke and mirrors to cover a weak staff?

Weak?
No
Average?
Maybe.

Lot of managers out there would trade their own pitching staffs for this "weak" one.

Just putting it into perspective.  With our almost expected success....  6 straight ALCS appearances.   Our (my) expectations are tad different.  Especially how this staff would fare in the post season.  In that world, this is a weak staff.

And we are lucky to be in the ALW this year.  In another division, we might not even make the playoffs. And I am still not convinced tht the M's right their ship, and make a push.  A 3 game lead is nothing at this point in the season.

Danny Jansen situation explained: Catcher to make MLB history by playing for Red Sox, Blue Jays in same game

Catcher Danny Jansen will make history Monday afternoon at Fenway Park. Jansen, currently a member of the Boston Red Sox, will become the first player ever to play for both teams in the same game when the Red Sox resume their suspended game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced it will happen Friday.

"Yeah, he's catching," Cora said Friday (via Boston Herald). "Let's make history!"

Monday's game is the resumption of the June 26 game suspended due to rain in the top of the second inning. Jansen started the game behind the plate for the Blue Jays, his longtime team. He was traded to the Red Sox at the deadline and replaced Reese McGuire on the team's roster. McGuire started the June 26 game behind the plate for the Red Sox.

[...]

It gets weirder: Jansen was in the batter's box taking his first at-bat of the day when the game was suspended. He fouled away a Kutter Crawford first pitch cutter, then the umpires called for the tarp, and the game was unable to be resumed that day. Here is the final pitch that was thrown on June 26: [video in article]

When the game resumes Monday, the Blue Jays will have a runner at first base with one out in the top of the second inning, and the batter who replaces Jansen in Toronto's lineup will inherit his 0-1 count.

W-Sox become second quickest team to lose a 100 in a season (131 games).  What a silly excuse for a baseball team.

I saw some pictures of the White Sox attendance today. Let's just say it makes Oakland look like a sellout!

Seriously, at that point they need to be giving away seats for free.  The empty stadium is not a good look, and maybe  people would spend some money on concessions if nothing else.  Crazy.

I have a bro-in-law who has (or used to have....I don't know now) season tickets to White Sox games. I haven't talked to him for a few years, and I'm wondering what he's thinking now.
I saw the last game played at old Comiskey Park before their new stadium was built next door. It was so small some foul balls would go completely over the stands and out of the park.

11 or so games to go, and I am imagining the Commish office is in doom and gloom mode, with maybe the most boring end (races) at least in my memory in the Wild Card era.....

All 6 races have 4 or more game leads. (NYY, CLE, HOU, PHI, MIL, LAD)

Only 9 teams fighting for the 6 WC spaces, with 2 of those on the bubble.

MLB hope for parity sure came through. this will be the first time with no 100W team since 2014

And last, there likely will be one team with <10K daily avg. attendance.  Oakland.  How does this happen at the MLB level

The Braves clearly do not want to make the playoffs this year.

Shohei Ohtani just had one of the greatest performances in MLB history:

6-for-6
3 Home runs
2 Doubles
1 Single
10 Runs Batted In
4 Runs Scored
2 Stolen Bases

He became the first player in MLB history to reach the 50/50 (and now 51/51) club.

He's a freak of nature! Just amazing. There will be a bunch of fans who will have the privilege of saying they were there the day Ohtani broke records. What a day for him. And he hasn't even started pitching yet.
