So, which was the gutsier call?  Bunting with two strikes and a man in scoring position?  Or the third baseman letting it roll?

(In retrospect, the right call would have been not to bunt and taken the walk since the pitch was obviously a ball).

UNC went on to tie it in the ninth and win it in the tenth.

I don't have a problem with Tucupita Marcano betting on baseball if he wasn't on the active roster.

He had inside information.  He bet for (or against) his own team while on the roster and while associating with other teammates.  I would love to know how hungover a pitcher was from the night before or how sore a shortstop's ankle was from some injury unknown to the public.  Who had stomach flu.  Etc.

Good points.

My thinking was that he wasn't in uniform nor anywhere near his teammates on a day-to-day basis...no opportunity to affect an outcome.

okay, LOOK!

The Orioles just took 2 of 3 from the Phillies to crawl even with the AL East division leading Yanks in the LOSS column.

The Yankees have played 3 more games than the O's putting them just 1.5 games GAMES BACK in the standings.

The O's travel to Yankee stadium for a 3 game series beginning Tuesday nite.

They hosted the Yankees in Baltimore earlier this year taking 3 out of a 4 game series.

SEC is dominating.  Eight teams whittled down to five.  Three of the four ACC teams are out.  FSU lives to fight another day.  The fourth team will be the loser between Kentucky and Florida.

Tennessee and Texas A&M are both 2-0.  FSU plays Tennessee tomorrow.  Kentucky plays Florida, with the winner playing Texas A&M the following day, and the loser going home.

Looks like it will likely be an all-SEC championship unless FSU can take two in a row from Tennessee (after losing a heartbreaker to them in the opening round).  In the first game, FSU was up by three going into the bottom of the ninth.  But Tennessee put four on the board for the walk-off win.

I turned it off when they were down by 8 runs...my phone started to light up with all my sons giving me updates.

My son Jason texted me: "Dad...don't you dare turn the game back on...they're only down by THREE RUNS!!"

Amazing that as soon as Grayson Rodriquiez was yanked, the wheels came off.

...or was it that the garbage cans were brought out or something??    :beer:

Doesn’t ring a bell? Bridges was a pitcher for the Volunteers in the late 1920s and later had a rather interesting debut with the Detroit Tigers. The first major league batter he ever faced was Babe Ruth. He got him to pop up on the first pitch. The third batter he faced was Lou Gehrig. He struck him out. Welcome to the bigs, kid. He would end up winning 194 games.

Before there was Caden Sorrell hitting a home runs for Texas A&M, there was Wally Moon.

Can’t quite place the name? Moon was an All-Southwest Conference outfielder for the Aggies in 1950. He homered in his first major league at-bat for St. Louis and was named National League rookie of the year. A couple of other candidates for the award that season were named Hank Aaron and Ernie Banks. Moon later played on three World Series champions for the Los Angeles Dodgers, where his homers even acquired their own nicknames. Moon Shots.

Phil Garner was an infielder for the last Pittsburgh Pirates World Series title 45 years ago, and later managed the Houston Astros to their first World Series. Know where he played his college baseball? Tennessee.

Davey Johnson was an infielder for the Baltimore Orioles World Series champions in 1966 and 1970 and later managed the New York Mets to the title in 1986. Know what he was in college? A Texas A&M Aggie.

In other words, they’ve been playing baseball a long time at Tennessee and Texas A&M and with some pretty good people wearing the colors.  .  .  .

Alive, but shadows of excellence of the past.  Starting staff doesn't have the depth to make a deep run in the playoffs.  Especially if Verlander stays out for the balance of the season.  Yeah, we had some good recent hopeful news, but neck injuries like this can be "iffy" on long term recovery.  this guy is 40 let's not forget.

One of my favorite things ever is when 'Tuve comes to the plate, the fans from the hosting team boo him with unbridled venom, and he smacks the snot out of the baseball, going yard as if to answer their protestations. I'm going to miss when that dies down.  :tongue2:

Here's a little something that my neighbor gave me. It commemorates his first MLB hit which will be commemorated later this month (July 20).

You are not going to lose too much with the like of Bregman, Alvarez, Tucker, and Altuve. all on one team.

OTOH, I've watched enough baseball over 60 years to know that SP depth has been up front and center since Spahn and Sain, and pray for rain.  We're toast in a 5 or 7 game series.
